    Don’t bother going school holidays!!!

We’ve been on this ship twice. Once out of school holidays (June 22) which was fantastic and once in school holidays (Oct 22) and it was awful. The ship, staff, food etc were fantastic but the passengers were shocking. Kids as young as 4 walking around the ship on their own at 11pm, groups of teenagers causing trouble, passengers so drunk they were fighting and got kicked off the ship, kids playing football in the corridor outside rooms at gone 11pm and I could go on. We took our two children with us aged 5 and 8 so I know kids can be kids but this was another level and the parents were too busy drinking to notice. We like a drink also but this was couldn’t stand up and being sick in the lift and staircases drunk. Read the reviews on trip advisor from Oct 22 and there’s loads of reviews similar to mine so I’m not the only one to have noticed.

In June from parking up we were on the ship within 20 minutes having a drink in the bar however in October it took us 3 hours of queuing due to the passenger numbers just to get on the ship.

Unfortunately the cheap deals in school holidays attract the wrong kind of passengers. If you’re happy with this then book as this is a good deal for a fantastic ship.

Sodding hell. Been eyeing up cruise deals as (despite still being more expensive) they are cheaper then other hols during school hols.

I appreciate the money is an issue for many. But for me the other big issue is the experience. Not only do you pay a lot more, but you then have a crap experience because everything is at capacity (or worse people lose the plot when they holiday with their kids). It’s one of the reasons I packed in several nice hols before my eldest hit 5.

Reading your experience has put me off now
(Especially when you mentioned your kids ages, mine are the same).

No drinks included, that’s an extra £29 per person per night 😥 and it means two sharing is an extra £58 per night, makes it a bit lumpy to be honest, I’m guessing thats for soft drinks also as me and the misses are both light drinkers these days 🤷‍♂️

£1324 with the drinks package for two in the lowest price inboard rooms (edited)

You could just not get the drinks package...

Water, juices, tea, coffee, morning hot chocolates are all included.

Drinks are expensive, but the occasional one won't cost you anywhere near £58 per night.

Not a great itinerary for what it's worth.
Positives: great ship, inclusive Graduites. MSC is good for entertainment.

We went on one MSC (been Cunard, RCI, Carnival, P and O, and princess) it was cheap great cabin, great staff and good food. The entertainment was shocking the worst I have seen at sea, everything said in 6 languages and the quality of the entertainment staff comical.
We are going RCI in October and have booked MSC for February half term so I think it good. We do not really drink and what we had paid for its about UK pub prices for a cruise line its good value. Someone has mentioned free juices and this is only at breakfast ! We did have large family groups that were annoying but not bad enough to call anti social. You get what you pay for I have booked one week with drinks package for £1300 for three of us our RCI cruise though whilst 2 weeks is £1900 each with no drinks package and tips on top

Cheaper per night than a Holiday Inn in on the South Coast - have the Government seen it?

Not enough lifeboats for my liking…

We were on the Oct trip from hell, found it ok as we adapted to work round the crowds.
As it is very busy you needed to work out when places are quiet(early) and when people will be moving like going for dinner or to the show get there just before get a drink and then grab a seat.

We don't have kids so will avoid school dates, for families at the price you get a good holiday loads of other kids for yours to hang out with good facilities.

I have never been on a cruise before but the deals for MSC look great! I will be looking out for off season deals that appear later on in the year. The reviews do not put me off as I aim to travel off season when it is quieter.

Is is realtively easy to get to the cruise terminal from the train or coach station? the main issue for me is getting to Southampton from the North West!

Have a look at Norwegian cruise line they have had some really good deals.

Also for regional options, there are cruises from closer ports that are getting decent rates.

if you have easy airport access.
if you can fly don't rule out those options, we have cheap flight to Copenahgen.
MCS embark at every port on the winter cruises so you can look at getting on at any of those if easier than getting to Southampton.

As you have a longish travel I would look at day before and overnight.
The train and National express stations are close enough to Horizon Terminal with 3 hotels on the way.
here is a google maps with the walk from the coach station to Horizon via hotels

Been on a few MSC cruises now -

    1) if it's off season (say January) the ship is almost empty (under 2k) and the experience is super good , no queues or need to even show cruise card after a few days : the staff tend to memorise you and can sit down in favourite seat and your favourite drink will likely turn up ahead of your ordering it

    2) if it's more on season but still when UK schools are in it starts getting crowded (3-5k) , adult Brits are the worst offender here as can treat it a bit like a booze cruise and tbh even the 'classier' older adults are downright rude and nasty to all the staff, sometimes it's like a oldies care home full of entitlement the p and o crowd

    3) if it's on season and schools are off, just forget it - (6k+) the worst kids and the worst adults, real 'feral kids bare hands in buffet dishes, parents pished to hell and several decks away from them'

    4) ofc if it's off season and schools are in and you still bring your kids by taking them out of school, your a certain sort of scum anyway xD
