If anyone is looking for northern lights, make sure you time it so it's around an eclipse and not full moon!

This is very interesting, please could you explain why? Thank you

Thanks - is there a good time to go if you want to see the light show?

Went in January! Taken on iPhone 13 Mini. Top tip take the private Viator tours with only a few people instead of the big buses, they take you further and you get some photos of yourself next to the lights! (edited)

If anyone thinks flights + luggage is expensive, do not bother with Iceland.

Food and ANY activities is Iceland are incredibly expensive.

The average wage there is £4,634 (808000 isk) so to them I'm sure its not that bad, but to the average Brit its hellishly expensive.

Even fast food there is £40ish for two, for a basic meal that in the UK wouldn't be more then £10-15.

Last time I went, to take a dip in the thermal pools was well over £100 for 2 people.

I would agree this is the most expensive place I have ever been, great to visit but a round of 3 lagers was £50( April 2023) , as for thermal baths I found the secret spa was only £25 , and I found best to hire a car as the tours are a rip off,but don't speed as they have the highest fines anywhere. But as a experience I would recommend visiting.

Add a standard size carry on bag, and the price more than doubles (i.e. +£68 with Easyjet, or +£62 with Wizz).
You'll probably need that for a week in November. (edited)

True, this is just the "base fare". Still seems to be l cheaper than other airlines though after adding about £60 extra

A slightly smaller 15kg check in bag with easyJet costs just under this fare, should be more than enough for 1 person imo (edited)

Went last year and it was cloudy and raining most of the time. Loved it though. Will go back when there is a deal that fits in with my holidays.

If you guys purely want to spot the Northern lights, I would suggest Finnish Lapland as it's slightly cheaper than Iceland. Besides, the weather in Iceland is more unpredictable. I saw one of the best Northern Lights in Finnish Lapland near Ivalo. Though the weather is colder than Iceland. I saw my first Northern lights in Reykjavik anyway.

Anyone found anothing decent for beginning of Oct from North West airports?

Best to book 2 weeks prior using the northern lights forecast

I went last November as I was told by hays they have the most snow and Northern lights in November.

    Went and saw neither!
    Still paying for it!

Also the most expensive place I've ever been!

USA, Germany and UK supply the food etc to them....then charge you 3x the price
    Makes no sense. (edited)

Well, someone has to pay from bringing the stuff there ^^"

Flight might be cheap but hotels and restaurants are very very expensive

Bet it’s bloody cold out there at that time

Yep flew to Lapland from Stockholm then after a few days took the overnight train back to Stockholm. Not particularly cheap but great experience.
