FYI - Antalya airport is pretty when you come back. Get there early

Free wifi for 30 minutes but only if you scan your passport

No mobile boarding passes accepted - you have to have a physical copy. Meaning LONG queues to get your boarding pass

Multiple security checks. They scan your bags several times, not just the once, for no obvious reason given no other airport feels the need to do this. Then just before boarding they open up your bags on a table and inspect everything again, again for no reason (edited)

Nonsense. I travel here regularly. It's quick and seamless unlike the chaos of post Brexit UK. I have no issue with security and bags are scanned on arrival so it's done and dusted.

Worth noting that the NEU (teachers) are striking again on the 5th (Wed) and 7th (Fri) July, so if your school is affected then that's 2 days less you have to worry about the kids missing school.

Cheeky gits. Week later and it would tie up nicely with school hols and the chance to grab a cheaper deal.

Come back Maggie, all is forgiven

Beautiful place but everyone is looking to rip you off any chance they get gets tiring after a while getting bent over left right and centre.

Definitely not my experience in several visits to Turkey. Most people there are helpful in my experience.

Have a look for flights with sun seekers get free 20kg luggage along with 10kg hand luggage. Currently here atm and my partner had to nip home got a flight there and back with luggage included for less than tui wanted for one flight with no luggage

Sorry it’s sun express my bad we found on sky scanner my partner said they were brilliant

Does anyone know the cost of getting to the city from the airport and the best method?
    arcticchimp's avatar
Depends where you're going but for the old city taxi was 150 lira in February. Tram is the cheapest option but we didn't use that due to not wanting to haul luggage.

Here in Antalya/alanya right now and the weather is brilliant
Staying in the gardenia beach hotel and it’s pretty decent 4 star hotel peaceful and quiet but I am sure this will change when the summer holidays start

Hey has anyone got a decent itinerary for Antalya? Staying in city Center. Looking for good food recommendations without breaking the bank, and a few ‘go to’ places. Have already got a bit of a plan. Just want to make sure I don’t miss anything significant. (edited)

    Do go to:

    Antalya Archeology Museum
    Perge Ancient City

Both some of best places I've been to.

    Don't go to:
The Aquarium, it's crap and one price for locals and another for tourists. (edited)

just stayed there with Jet2 it was a solid 4* better than any Spanish hotel with same rating. Was 10 days for 2+2 for £2350

Antalya is very pricey this year. Hence cheap flights cropping up. The good hotels have priced themselves 2x more than last year.
    Dale_Uk's avatar
It's because the city had a large influx of Russians, and thus availability is allot lower

Antalya is a great destination overall.
As everywhere there's somebody trying to rip you off so ask for prices first. We were there a week and we had two instances where they tried. Notably the Turkish ice cream sellers on the beach are notorious for it.

Public transport is decent, cheap too. Taxis not bad and run of a meter by law.
    Nav_A20's avatar
Also note they are now demanding you pay them in Sterling or euros.

    Lovely place, and it’s cheap!

I found Antalya disappointing. Very little in the way of places to explore or walk to. Cheap public transport and taxis, but food/meat and drink expensive. The airport is particularly expensive. Much prefer Andalusia.
    sul's avatar
No way. Food is expensive yes but There is so much to explore in Antalya. Andalusia is a different country altogether

  21. Tay1981's avatar
Does TUI charge for check-in at the airport?
  22. arcticchimp's avatar
Incredible price and a beautiful place. I'm going Turkey around the same time and sadly paid much more.

Antalya is gorgeous. If you're looking to save money when there, make sure to use the public transport as much as possible over taxi.

A bus journey from the centre of town to outskirts of town are around 9.60 TL each way (less than £0.50p)

Meanwhile a taxi will probably cost 110 TL or more.

These are freebird flights. Are they okay to travel with?
    MajorDealHunter's avatar
Just returned from 2 X freebird flights after Tui moved us, pretty much the same as Jet2/Tui. They did screw up a bit and put our kids in single seats (aged 2 and 5) . Seemed to be the same up and down the plane but they handled it thanks to some nice passengers

Lost all faith with TUI, based on Disney/Orlando forums as they’ve been messing people around changing departure airport, arrival airport, dates etc. We have cancelled with them and foregone our deposit just for peace of mind.
