Are the expansions playable from the start or do you need to work through the main game to get to them?

I think I read Witch Queen was not available for new players until you navigated to a certain point.

I’ve just returned to D2 after a significant hiatus - probably 3yrs or so. I played the initial Y1/Y2 content, then got a bit fed up of it; D1 was too fresh in my mind hence why D2 in its early days felt like a huge let down.

I’ve returned now purchasing the Legacy Collection and can see all of the expansions for the Legacy Collection in my director. I think I initially completed some story back in the day, so probably up to date bar the new expansions Y2 and beyond.

£19.99 for the Legacy Collection feels like the best bang for buck, but only if you’re focused on playing the story modes. If you’re a co-op/online PVP type of player, I’d say go for Lightfall (current season) to get the most up to date stuff/events/etc.

For anyone new to Destiny 2. The base game is free to play on all platforms - so if you’re interested, pick
It up for free and then check out which expansions and content you fancy. Lightfall is the current season, which would produce the most up to date gear and events.

I have also recently returned from a very long hiatus (not played since Red War) and can confirm the Legacy Collection is worth it.

£20 for all the story content, exotics, raids, strikes etc is well worth it. Be warned though, the new player experience in this game is absolutely atrocious. I nearly quit 3 times getting back into this game because I didn't have a clue what was going on

Sounds like typical D2 every time they drop/remove content. It’s simply becomes an exercise in bounty completion rather than being able to follow any cohesive story.

I’m on a 2 year hiatus (played about 5 hours every day during lockdown with 3 characters to max level at the time) and whilst intrigued i have no desire to go through that same dreadful returning player experience of not knowing or understand WTF is going on or what I’m supposed to actually be doing.

D2 got an absolute slating regarding microtransactions in this video recently by a well known player in the community. Even mentions pay to win!

Overblown overreaction to a mistake regarding an armour mod linked to progression within a season pass, hardly pay to win. But there is a recurring trend with bungie lately with sloppiness, e.g. broken exotics, easy cheese on bosses, poor writing / continuity and poor server uptime (edited)

Honestly destiny 2 is one of the best games this generation.

For those jumping back in or those new to it.. note that each season has its cutscenes and lore.

So people jumping back into destiny 2 will have to watch some season cutscenes online. Once a season is over, the cutscenes go away.

Seconded, a fantastic game. Worth noting that the seasonal content stays for the year, so plenty of time to play through the season that's already finished (Defiance) and about 35 days left of Season of the Deep. Two more seasons coming up before the next expac

Whilst I’m still finding my feet after a long hiatus, I was a veteran of D1 with over 1,300hrs in (shocking I know!!).

Have you downloaded the Destiny Companion App? If you explore the ‘FireTeams’ tab, you can essentially ask for help and offer help; I used to frequent the ‘LookingForGame’ Destiny Reddit when searching for guardians to raid with, met some awesome folk. Even ran Trials flawless with some crazy Americans, good times.

I guess the TLDR is - sorry I’m probably useless until I gear up again!! (edited)

I played D1 from day 1 and a year or so into D2. It was D2 that made me hate the game. I have tried going back to it but for its there’s far too much activities, missions, patrols, weapon infusion system and the dreaded micro transactions. Still, this does seem a bargain.

I lost count of hour many hours spent on D1 and played D2 for the first couple of seasons. It just feels that the later seasons have just been re skins of enemies to fight and a rinse and repeat story lines. Stopped buying them a while back and not seen any reviews of recent dlc that makes me think its changed.

Part of the fun of destiny is its shonkiness. Bungie even lean in to it like the time they turned trace rifles into one hit kills, so they had a ‘laser-tag’ weekend with a free emblem, or the time they accidentally let 12 players run a 3 player dungeon. The best memories and stories are about how borked it gets at times. Telesto fusion rifle has been a meme since day one and still regularly snaps the game in half. Overall a brilliant game with an amazing community who don’t take things too seriously. You’re pretending to be a space wizard for Elmo’s sake…. (edited)

I played this for years.. three characters did all the weekly events grinding for gear with all of them maxing out light/power levels for all three and helping others complete raids etc.. it consumed my life being honest it was that good it was the only game I played.. but am I the only one who got fed up with the greed of expansions and the cost of them which basically locked players out of progress unless they paid for expansions? I'm shocked this is still going and I'm lost at what expansions I would actually need now. I remember the last exotic I got was 1000 voices I believe its called? Which expansions have been released since that?
