Is this any good for electric shower which has low pressure in general especially when using hot water?
    Ken's avatar
I'd not use one on an electric shower. They could cause back pressure and cause it to overheat.

Of course they work, but it would likely damage the unit sooner or later. (edited)

    Sounds like cheap novelty junk

That's what I thought - but gave it ago - bought 4 a few years ago, before covid. Still going strong. The mrs was very sceptial. They're great, honestly. Strong water jet as if by magic if you've got a slow shower head.

To the people who have these, do me a favour and check inside where the head joins the hose. Can you see a flow limiter/restrictor? That’s a little disk like a washer with a hole in the centre which stops the water supplied from flowing at the maximum rate (intended as a water saving device and often found in the hoses too).

Most showers in the last decade or more have these limiters and I’m just wondering if these don’t have them and that’s why the flow is higher than you’d expect. I can’t see another way of achieving that (especially as you’re also forcing the water through a cylinder full of magical balls that ‘remove chlorine’) apart from having smaller or fewer holes in the spray head - that would make it feel like higher pressure but the flow would actually be the same as your old one.

I don't have this one but have a similar one that increases pressure.
It sounds like there is something rotating inside with the flow of the water. (edited)

I bought this, but I don't recommend it if you have hard water. It uses tiny holes instead of nozzles and they block after a few uses

That's nice, but what are the stupid balls for?

Anyone who doesn't have it, trust me when I say it's no gimmic. it's AMAZING.

I had one similar, the head use to get too heavy and drop so ended up bining it. I'm in a hard water area, didn't get any benefits that were suggested it provided 😔

I can believe that making the holes in the shower head smaller will give the effect of creating more powerful jets (even though it doesn’t increase the flow) and it’s possible that the beads help create that ‘pulsing effect’

But the claims about the ‘anion stones’ and their filtering effect is pure rubbish. If you’re unsure, look at actual science sites, not websites promoting sales.

I laughed aloud when I saw a reference on one of these Amazon descriptions (£7.99 btw) to “infrared mineral balls”. The only accurate word there was the third one .

Wouldn't be surprised to learn these were also radioactive.

Total gimmick. Settings give you either a fine mist or a mediocre spray. Balls do not soften water (they never erode or disappear so can they be mixing with water?).
Invest in a wider shower hose from tap to head and non restricted shower head for low pressure systems (a lot of water saving restrictors these days, like the ones you get free from water companies, but unnnecessary for low pressure systems as you won't get through 6 litres a minute anyway).

I bought one of these for a rubbish electric shower we had in our rental property. I bought it with scepticism knowing I could send it back if it didn't work.

But honestly - it's great and adds the feeling of more pressure.

You've got to remember that the water flow is the water flow. You can't increase it unless you change your shower. All this does is pool it and then push it through smaller holes increasing the feeling of increased pressure on your skin . (edited)

Honestly, these are ggggreeat. My Mrs was very sceptical that they would work on our low pressured showers, but - zing, zing, zing - they are the coyote's cojones! Nice strong jet just by replacing the shower head. Lovely jubbly!
    herrbz's avatar
Are you sure it wasn't the old shower head that was the issue?
  12. badgaltritri's avatar
    I had one, they’re useless
    badgaltritri's avatar
Why the heck is this a 500 degree hot deal? A tenner for plastic and a gimmick ‘filter’ which any review will tell you does nothing for hard water whatsoever. You can get a normal shower head for a fiver and it’ll give better pressure than this. I’m guessing Amazon are paying to promote this rubbish on HUKD now?

These are a load of cr*p. Bought one for a shower that had low pressure at my last house and all it is is smaller holes on the shower head. While the water came out faster, you got half as much

Personally recommend a Mira beat shower head with hose. They are designed for low pressure systems and give a good shower. Obviously best with a Mira mixer.
You can pick them up cheap on eBay, you get a normal and wide head, personally prefer the wide one.
We run a Mira element mixer off 0.2head(low pressure system) and the shower is great, obviously it's not high pressure pull your skin off, but more than acceptable.
  15. ziggycat's avatar
    there is no restrictor

Thanks - that’s got to help.

Agreed, I love coming here to get a idea of everyone's understanding of physics (or lack there of!).

I tried this a few years ago. I don’t have low water pressure and it’s like having the skin flayed off your face and shoulders. I can attest to their effectiveness cos I now look like two face

I bought a cheap "high pressure" head for my holiday home a few years ago. It was like a fiver, as it had no magic balls, just tiny holes. Oh the pain! Nobody enjoyed using it, the pressure was there but it was like needles on your skin!
  18. ziggycat's avatar
same here, I was sceptical but ended up buying it last time it was on here and turned out to be way better than I anticipated

Any difference between this (black) and M-black besides the colour? Is M-black 2nd generation?
  23. 7116716252's avatar
Well I bought one... no idea why
  24. amd12345's avatar
soooo... Less water comes out but the water is under higher pressure making you think its working better than a normal shower head?
    SavvySue's avatar
I mean, if you want more pressure and it’s giving you that, then it’s working better than the previous shower head in regards to pressure. It can’t fix the problem, it puts a “band aid” on it.

If anyone wants more pressure and soft water, then they’re going to have to spend the money required and not expect the world of a ten quid shower head
  25. WhySoMiserable's avatar
I got one, was sceptical but it works. It was so powerful it blew me clean out of the shower and took the tiles off on the opposite wall. A few weeks later the fireservice were struggling with a firework factory near where we live, 8 units there, out of their depth, I connected this up to a ibc and it quenched all the fire within 3 minutes, no loss of life, minimal smoke inhalation and the fire service are considering getting rid of their ineffective hoses and strapping one of these to the front of their units. Can't recommend enough.
  26. goody's avatar
    Might try this
  27. DemonUK's avatar
Do these work on bath taps where a hose is used directly off the taps? Not a mixer tap. Two taps into one hose. Pretty old school. Obviously pressure is poor at present.
  28. GenuWhine's avatar
Glad i came back for the negative comments, added this to my basket, then did something else and forgot, found this thread again, read the comments about the false perception of power when it's just the small holes and no more pressure, then deleted from basket lol
    SavvySue's avatar
How did you think it was creating the pressure when it doesn’t have any power?
  29. MrShaun_Warburton's avatar
It weighs a ton, don't drop it on your toes?
    ohdearohdear's avatar
Where should I drop it then?

Well, I finally bit even though the physics wouldn't agree with this being able to increase water pressure - and it doesn't. It is a decent shower head and an upgrade on the last one though so 🤷‍♂️
