MSI A520M-A PRO for £54 on Amazon if you want cheap

    amazon.co.uk/MSI…h=1

B550M if you want more I/O better USB performance etc.

Any X570 chipset motherboard if you want to be silly and spend too much.

Showing £27.78 import fee, making it £165.43 overall

Same. Annoying, iirc the threshold for import tax is £135 and this is just over that

Now that is a great find, and excellent price.

    5600G at £102 isn't shabby either.

Compared to the hilariously over-priced 'new' Intel CPUs (where Intel wants this level of dosh for a FOUR core), punters wanting to build a good lowest cost 'Steam' box (able to run most good Steam games well from the iGPU) should jump on this. Then look for the cheapest AM4 MB, a cheap PSU, a cheap case, cheap SSD and cheap 16GB (tho I'd recommend the extra for 32GB) RAM.

If the PSU isn't too cheap, one could upgrade to something like the 6600M discrete GPU in the future, and get a massive boost in gaming performance. There's a lot of fun to be had building a decent PC at the lowest possible cost.

This is without a doubt a great deal, and building an AM4 system is definitely the way to go for current budget systems.

However, which Intel 4-core are you referring to? All 12th gen and newer Intel i5 CPUs have anywhere between 6 and 12 cores. For example, my laptop's i5-12500H is a 12-core 16-thread and rivals the desktop Ryzen 7 5700X. (edited)

    Great price but NOTE.

5700x is a better buy. If you can strech a tiny bit.

    Pice 4 support

Double the l3 cache of 5700g. Important for gaming.

Great price, around £25-30 cheaper than recently

Heat. This plus a B450 / B550 board + 16GB RAM is a great budget gaming starter build. Yes, no GPU needed. Upgrade later, still have a potent 8 core CPU for anything beyond gaming.

Great price for what is still a very capable CPU.

Ryzen 7 5700G is only PCIe 3 - will it restrict things on a PCIe 4 motherboard please? (edited)

You should buy this chip if you want a basic gaming pc without discrete GPU. I have a pc built with this and the chip can play older games and those not requiring much vram like civ 6 very well.
