If its 4x3 month codes it will give 50-52 days per code which is obviously better.
If you can wait for the sub to finish that is the best option as 3 month codes give 60 days for new subs.
tldr:
Paid for 2x12 month Xbox Live Gold membership keys (you have to pay for each individually on CDKeys).
Redeemed the keys on Xbox after first using Windscribe VPN set to Turkey.
Upgraded to Games Pass Ultimate on the Xbox site by purchasing a 1 month subscription for £12.99 - the conversion of the XLG sub to GPU (at a ratio of 3:2) means the GPU sub is valid until 8th Feb 2025.
In total I paid £56.97, which works out at £40.13 per year or £3.34 per month.
NOTE: I couldn't purchase a 3rd 12 month sub for XLG because the Paypal security measures kicked in when I tried to do it and it wouldn't let me purchase with Paypal. I tried paying with debit card and that also failed, so in the end I cut my losses and settled for just 2 years of XLG.
Not a massive fan of this mucking around with VPN and all that but needs must. Little bit unnerving but it worked.
I was worried about redeeming the code on the Xbox site via VPN set to Turkey and whether or not I would have to attempt to login to the Xbox site with only Turkish text on the page(!). In the end, as it happens, the Xbox redemption page didn't look any different to when I logged in normally - all text was in English etc and in fact I didn't even have to login to Xbox at all (probably because I'd just logged in 'normally' without the VPN - I guess the Xbox site detects what language you're using in the browser so it sets the site to en-gb or whatever).
I initially wondered if my VPN setup was even working because somewhere along the line it said I would be adding the subscription to my UK Xbox account (from memory it says along the lines of 'you will be adding this to your Xbox account 'asdf@example.com' (United Kingdom)) - but it redeemed the codes fine.
Finally I ended up just paying the full £12.99/month for the GPU sub (I clicked on 'renew subscription' for the GPU option on the 'subscriptions' page) because of the issues with Paypal security locking me out - otherwise I'd have bought a cheap 1 month GPU from CDKyes and redeemed that to activate the conversion.
Conversion was automatic during the purchase of the 1 month GPU, just took me to a page explaining what the new subscription end date would be after the GPL was converted.

For using VPN then it's best to login to redeem.microsoft.com without the VPN set as its a) going to load faster b) you won't be logging into your account via a different country as such c) you're not passing login details via a VPN.
Once you have the page loaded to redeem the code then turn the VPN on. I normally do a quick IP check in another browser tab to see if its actually set to the right country as I've had it before saying connected to Argentina or Turkey yet IP is India so codes wont redeem.
Then once its all set up input the code and the code is then checked, and obviously any regional lock in the code is checked at the time to make sure you're redeeming the code in the right country.
Just tested on my phone but if you set VPN up and go to Xbox.com it still went to the UK site even though I was using Argentina VPN. Even goggling Xbox the default was to GB site, but all other search results were related to Argentina, even Microsoft.com website in the search was directing to the Argentina version yet Xbox.com was directing to the GB site.
Potentially some mix of browser settings and IP settings maybe. There's times that you end up searching for stuff and Xbox.com defaults to the US site for me at home and while on my work Mac as well.
You can easily browse other Xbox region websites just by selecting the country at the bottom. This allows you to buy from Iceland where some games are cheaper than UK prices or browse Argentina and Turkish stores to check prices of games. (edited)
I had enough points in my Microsoft Rewards to redeem a free month of GPU which in turn converted the 3 years of XBLG to 2 years of GPU! 🙌
Basically 12 month codes are no good for currently subbed people, you need 3 month codes, but if you are near the sub ending like you are, can wait to unsub then resub for better conversion.
This is all assuming nothing drastically changes on the 14th of September, which i don't think will. (edited)

For £55.93, which when converted to Xbox games pass ultimate @ 50 days per 3 months, gave me 350 days ultimate.
So nearly a years ultimate games pass for £56 which I think is a bargain compared to if you bought it at the price Xbox offer, which is currently £12.99 a month so a total yearly fee of £155.88, so almost £100 saving.
I've bought 3 years of gold and what I understand is that you can't upgrade your gold to Ultimate with a 'trial' code (edited)

Managed to bag 3 years of Xbox live gold in one purchase on cdkeys.
Downloaded Nord VPN which has a 7 day free trial on android. (Download the app and it will advise you there is a 7 day trial when signing in - I signed in using the Google account)
Selected turkey as the VPN, opened up the browser and used redeem.microsoft.com . Signed in and entered the codes with no issues.
I have yet to convert it to game pass but was able to add all 3 years with no issues, so will do that later today.
Thanks for this, I believe this method is being retired so was good timing. Hope it works for you guys, seen some issues for some people on here.
Or at least, I've got 3 years Xbox Live Gold, but I can't find a way to upgrade to XGP Ultimate other than pay £12 a month and that doesn't say anything about upgrading

Connect to a Turkey VPN. I used Windscribe (Istanbul Lygos server). Go to: account.microsoft.com/bil…eem and put the code in and it should convert it. Hope this helps.
