    Nothing for us Londoners

Also no vegetarian options! what's up with that
    Pualle's avatar
Nothing for the vast majority of the country.

And it's only a cheap pizza that they've cooked for you. You're not missing out. They could have my favourite topping, but it's a cheap Aldi pizza, so it wouldn't be my favourite pizza.

Save your money. Buy a pizza base and put all your favourite vegetables on and bang it in the oven. It will arrive on time, it will be better and it will be cheaper. Or make your own dough for MUCH better and even cheaper.

Delivery is £2.50 on top I think but still great value

That's the Domino's delivery for the price comparison. Aldi's offering is free delivery.

Expect to wait 3 hours for your Pizza in Wales with the 20MPH limit.

About time the competiton comes in. all these US based pizza companies including Domino's have been mugging the public for a long time.

Yes! It's about time someone takes on Dominos/Pizza Hut for the extortioniate prices they charge
    David18's avatar
Yeah if only there was literally anywhere else that makes pizza in the UK that isn't dominos or pizza hut...

Huge shame there’s nothing vegetarian being offered as part of the trial (and no I’m not vegetarian for vegan ) (edited)

I'm willing to bet this is just a temporary thing to market their new ultimate takeaway range. They will offer this for a couple of months to reinforce the idea their pizzas are comparible to a takeaway pizza. You see them do it in store where they mimic dominos packaging and sauces. They aren't really going into the takeaway business. £3.99 wouldn't cover the food, cooking and delivery costs.
    scott2c's avatar
    I’m with you.

Aldi are scum at how they steal branding. I haven’t seen the in store packaging but just here it’s a blatant dominoes rip off I dunno how they get away with it.
  11. Gareth_Lewiss6w's avatar
Shame that it’s only CF10 and CF11. Just the city centre for now.
    plebbygiraffe's avatar
It is a marketing exercise. There is no 'for now'. It is just one day only, for a couple of hours where you need to order well in advance.

This isn't some new business venture.

As the website states - "Once they’re gone, they’re gone".

Plus as the terms state they only have 100 pizzas in each region, and there are three regions.
So there are only 300 pizzas available. So 150-300 customers at most.
  12. bil.hussain's avatar
Quality of takeaway food has gone down hill !

If some one is selling this for £3.99. I wonder what ingredients can you buy for £3.99 and still make a profit?

    The mind just boggles !
    tightpants's avatar
It won't be anything worse than Domino's.
£3.99 is the same price for some of their in store pizzas. £2.59 for their Carlos brand pizzas, if I remember correctly. They'll be making a tiny profit, whilst also getting some publicity. (edited)
  13. batterylife's avatar
ALDI taking a slice out of Domino's turnover.
A pal used to work at Pizza Hut and said the pizzas cost no more than £1 in ingredients.
Domino's turned over 17.5 BILLION USD last year.
    Wackawackaboomboom's avatar
Laywers, construction .. the list goes on! The price is based on demand and skill.
  14. Regprentice's avatar
it doesn't actually say they'll be cooked. i suspect they'll force two frozen, boxed, pizzas through your letterbox and the dog will get to them before i will.

I was thinking the exact same

They need to start selling fuel, they'll soon put the criminals out of action.
    deleted531767's avatar
I think you need a general election to put the criminals out of action, or at least swap them out for different ones.
  16. adamguest1985's avatar
This cannot be financially, or environmentally, sustainable :/
    A77's avatar
Agree...but it will be for a limited period to gauge interest and build customer base and then drop the price increase or delivery charge or min spend for free delivery.

At this price delivered....happy to give it a go (darn....limited postcode - seems to be student area focused in Manchester) and I'm across the road from M15...maybe I'll order to house across the road and wait outside ).....thanks OP! 🏼👏🏽 (edited)

Terms state only 100 per region! Cynical marketing promo aimed primarily at uni students in targeted, limited areas & limited to delivery weeks away from booking. 3 pizzas on offer but only allowed to buy 2?
    Guinea pigs jumping through hoops.
Clearly not for the masses. Disappointing.
    JonnyDuddle's avatar
    Relax bro.
  18. deleted531767's avatar
Cheap, but it's really just terrible cheese on a pizza base with a few extras.

Cheddar is an oily greasy cheap cheese I would never put on a pizza.
  19. welshblob's avatar
To do it in one city then this would feel like a short term marketing exercise, but 3 then maybe they are thinking about this longer term?
    cochon's avatar
but 3 [cities] then maybe they are thinking about this longer term?
Not 3 whole cities though, just very small trial areas within each.

That would be a good start
  25. X-Ray's avatar
This has to be an early April fools joke.
  26. 8atman's avatar
How is this profitable? This could be a marketing ploy where they will either increase the price or have very few on sale.
  27. sm9690's avatar
Aldi pizza delivery timeslot bookings will be available from 09:00 GMT on 18.09.23 to 09:00 GMT 22.09.2023, or until all timeslots are booked. Pizzas will be delivered from 03.10.23 from 17:00 GMT to 21:00 GMT.

So this is actually only on for 4 hours, what is the point
    plebbygiraffe's avatar
It is just a marketing gimmick so that they can promote the new range, and in order to make the price comparison to Dominos they need to be offering a like for like comparison - ie. delivery and served cooked.

Just another in a long line of marketing gimmicks from them.
  28. Josh99's avatar
It's a frozen pizza, one off the shelf lol. Better buying your own a d cooking whenever..i thought this was going to be a fresh pizza
  29. elbs's avatar
Obviously a short-term, purely promotional PR exercise.

From a practical perspective a good offer for those in the areas, though I wonder if they come cooked/ready to eat or not.
  30. PaulIngham's avatar
With the new 20mph speed limits in Wales, your Pizza will be cold by the time it's delivered in Cardiff
    davej1710's avatar
Was driving in Cardiff centre a few weeks back in those postcodes & it took me over 20 mins to travel 0.7 miles on a baking hot day.
Would be lucky to reach 20mph there at times.
  31. ssb1973's avatar
That's awesome - reasonably priced Pizza delivered. Domino's and Papa John's must be quaking in their boots with their overpriced £20+ pizzas!

Hopefully two you mentioned and all these south asian pizza places claiming to sell so called pizzas will shut after this move.

The typo in the first paragraph made me double-take. "choice of three 1.5 inch pizzas" had me thinking £3.99 isn't great value!
