Some have mentioned the Windows 11 issue and updates.
Another option is to roll back to Windows 10, then install AtlasOS which speeds the OS up quite a lot (useful on an old 2c/4t CPU like this one).

AtlasOS was designed for gamers, but in speeds up the system in general so worth doing (it does disable a few features though so read up on it before installing).

This is the removed features page -

    Hadn't heard of that. Thanks

Any issues with compatibility of software on here (like for example - will windows 11 even work)? I loved the old Surface Book when I had them years ago, and even if just for that excellent display this is a very good price, but the specs are ancient!

Windows 11 can be made to work BUT when Microsoft adds a major update such as the more recent 22H2, the update will fail because it will check if the system is compatible and it will tell you that it isn't compatible. That means you then have to do an in place upgrade, meaning you download the latest .iso of Windows 11 with the update and use that to force the update and sometimes that means that saving your data and settings is greyed out so effectively like reinstalling. So yes Windows 11 will work but Microsoft introduce checks when doing major updates which can be very irritating.

Image used on their listing looks like a Surface Laptop Go rather than a Surface Book.

Was about to bite but now showing as £139.00.

Why an extra tenner puts me off I'm not really sure, but it has. (edited)

If only it was easy to replace the screen battery and the main body battery. Watched YouTube vid and it's not for the faint hearted! I think I'll pass!

Good price IMO despite the fact the CPU is very old. The problem with these may be the battery. I voted hot! (edited)

A lot of complaints about the age of the processor here.

These are really good at this price for those of us into tinkering, particularly with cars. VCDS for VAG vehicles runs on windows and having a nice little laptop/tablet like the surface is ideal. It’s twice the price of the little Geobook type things that are often posted but you get far more than twice the hardware.

if you’re really concerned about battery life etc then give it a miss because you most likely aren’t capable of changing the battery yourself and even if you were it’s not worth the hassle.

It’s a good price but complaints about this seller and they seem to meddle with the price if posted as a deal.

Also this laptop is extremely complicated and getting on a bit, batteries and displays are glued in, when things go wrong (eg detaching function) you will have no support so bear that in mind too.

As if by magic, gone up a tenner!

Was looking at the previous post earlier today. I couldn't see any posts about the condition of what people got, would be interesting to know. (edited)

The feedback is good. Nearly all 5 star with a couple moaning about the packaging & a couple saying theirs didn't work but the seller replaced.

It comes with a 6th Gen processor ,way old from newest 12/13th Gen .
Price for that old laptop seems just OK

It's dual core, it's gonna struggle.

Surface Pro 4 has a poor battery. Pay a bit more for a Pro 5 instead.
    The.Fat.Cat's avatar
It's quite a bit more for one with the keyboard though.

What would battery life be like
    Somersett's avatar
Bad, just awful. No-one buys these expecting a good battery life. They are really for mains use, with the desirable factor being the screen.

These are not normie lappies. Most old, once very expensive, once very high-spec second-hand tech ain't for normies. However there are constant excellent second hand laptop deals here that can be recommended for everyone.

    It is actually £149.98

You have to pay for postage

Battery has gone in the keyboard on my Surface Book 2, which means it won't charge any more as a combined unit. You have to charge the screen, but manually detach the keyboard with a paper clip stuck in one of the air vents (as it won't do this without power).

Replacing it is a hardcore 5/5 difficulty process as well.

Anyone know if you could buy this and then use the keyboard on the SB2?
