Good price for a branded 2.5Gb card with manufacurer support. Realtek chipset I believe.

2.5Gb and faster than Gigabit home internet is rolling out to more locations, but not all PCs have 2.5Gb ethernet on board.

Blazing Speed - 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet unlock the highest performance of your multi-Gig bandwidth and devices. Whether local data transfer or Internet access, the TX201 is up to the task.
Versatile Compatibility - With extreme speed and ultra-low latency, 2.5GBase-T is backwards compatible with Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet, automatically negotiating between higher and lower speed connections.
Low-Profile and Full-Height Brackets - In addition to the standard bracket, a low-profile bracket is provided for mini tower computer cases. Customized options give you the flexibility to find a bracket that perfectly fits your board design.
Comprehensive System Support - Fully compatible with Windows 11/10/8.1/8/7, Windows Servers 2022/2019/2016/2012 R2/2012/2008 R2, Linux.
Easy Setup- Simple software installation with the intuitive Utility on the provided CD, with 3 years manufacture warranty.

Maximum wired data throughput rates are the physical rates derived from IEEE Standard 802.3 specifications. Actual wired data throughput will vary as a result of environmental factors, Ethernet cable class, and computer performance.

2.5 Gigabit Ethernet reaches blazing-fast data rates up to 2.5 billion bits per second—2.5× faster than standard Gigabit Ethernet. For bandwidth-intensive tasks, whether local data transfer or Internet access, the TX201 is up to the task.

With 2.5 Gbps internet access, your gaming will be fully optimized with a large boost in speed, latency, and responsiveness. Large-sized game downloads, seamless live streaming, and massive data backups via the cloud are as easy as choosing your character.

For local connections, a 2.5G PCIe adapter helps build a lightning-fast transport channel between a central storage device and other working machines in your local network. Local data transmissions will be a breeze for you as you handle bandwidth-intensive tasks easily at your home or office.

Quality of Service technology ensures enough bandwidth and avoids network congestion. Whether streaming or real-time gaming, enjoy a smooth web experience.

2.5G Base-T is backwards compatible with multiple data rates, including 2.5 Gbps, 1 Gbps, 100 Mbps and 10 Mbps Base-T connectivity. The 2.5G Ethernet port automatically negotiates between higher and lower speed connections, allowing you to upgrade to 2.5G networking smoothly.

Don't forget- everything else in your home network needs to support 2.5, else it will simply degrade to the standard 1Gb.

In truth, home ethernet is currently a bust, down to the refusal to move to light transmission. Optical was expected to take over years ago, BUT the issue is the flexibility of optical cables over copper. The industry has settled on very expensive semi-pro kit as the only good option if you want faster than 1Gb.

10Gb, or even 100Gb switches should be cheap now, as a result of the constant improvements in processing power per dollar. But they stay expensive as commercial semi-pro solutions. And USB/Thunderbolt/whatever-else-it-is-called is about to zoom past home ethernet in speed, albeit with much shorter connection pathways.

Pretty much all of this is just plain wrong.

If you have a mix of 2.5G and 1G, as long as your switch supports 2.5G then your 2.5G devices will talk to each other at 2.5G.

How is home ethernet a bust? Bog standard CAT 5E supports 10G up to 100m. Most people don't have much of a need over 1G, and 40G can be done over cable.

10G switches start at about £250. A bit pricey, but if you've got a need or even just an interest, it's not a massive investment.

10G over copper over a decent distance needs a fair bit of power. And thus heat. There's only one fanless 10G RJ45 switch and that's limited to 5 ports. Thunderbolt and USB are irrelevant - as you say yourself, range is of the order of single digits of metres, so none of the signalling issues that you have to deal with at home size scale. And designed for completely different purposes and requirements.

As for optical, have a look at how much an optical TB cable costs. And also read up on how unreliable they are.

Everything to you seems to be some sort of industrial conspiracy. (edited)

Where’s faster than 1gb internet rolling out? I’m don’t feel it, but I’m quite lucky with my 80mb connection, some people I know are on single digit megabytes. The only way I would get full fibre in my area is to buy a new build house as it’s a planning condition.

Even with slower than 1Gb Internet faster connections can be useful for quicker backup/transfer to NAS.

    2.5Gbs is only 300MB/s.

Card supplied is TX201 V1 and has a 3 year warranty with TP-Link UK stated on the box.

Card appears to work to fine on the default drivers Windows 11 loaded, but here's the driver download if needed for TX201 V1 on the US TP-link site.

The 10 Gigabit one for £89.99 is not bad for the price .

Not a fan of the Aquantia chipset ones. The Intel ones perform better, and you can get them for £60ish new on eBay.
