Looks like a good deal, very rarely hits this price for long it seems. Normally around £30.

This is regarded as one of the better powered hubs, especially if you need 3.2.

Cheers!

    Thanks OP.

I'm wondering what's the point in a powered hub, can anyone explain?

From my experience, you either you have an external device that needs/has it's own power cable (e.g. 3.5 hard drive) & can be plugged into any hub (powered or not) or you have a device that doesn't require a power cable (e.g. usb stick or 2.5 hard drive).

Is it simply that a usb hub with 7 ports is so large that it needs a power cable too? Or is it to protect that pc that the hub is connected to?

Basically yes - powering 7 devices from one port will almost certainly draw too much power from it, particularly during boot.

I have one attached to my work setup at home and it's also useful for charging multiple devices at a slightly better rate than direct from a laptop. I also have some non IT USB powered things plugged into it - a light and small fan. Can still use those without the laptop being on, plus both of the above means there's less things needing wall chargers. I already have a full 10 way PDU strip for all the kit.....

There's a vague mention of PS5 in the description. I tried a similar powered one with my PS5 so I could use PSVR with it. Requires two USB and there's two USB on the back of the PS5, but as I have an external hard drive with PS4 games on (which doesn't support a hub), only one free and didn't want cables at the front.

Turns out powered hubs don't seem to work reliably on a PS5, less so USB 3. In the end a cheap and cheerful none powered 4 port USB 2.1 was fine.

This is a good deal if you want one of these though, I've got a couple of Sabrent hubs and they have been rock solid.

I’m reluctant to use any usb pen drive or external hd on a hub after 3 pen drives failed when connected to a sabrent usb hub. I reckon a powered one would be good for not showing that to happen maybe?

I have something similar. The buttons are a gimmick with no practical application I have found. Also the buttons get accidentally switched off leaving you very puzzled when after several years you have forgotten anout the buttons.
Also you now have a switch in the circuit so they are more prone to interference.

Doesn't work with Windows 10 and can't be made to work as the Windows thread shows:

    answers.microsoft.com/en-…a44

The thing continually connects and disconnects and won't transfer data across USB 3.0 or 3.1 The guy who started this thread was himself a software developer, finally gave up and sent it back
