Arduino starter kit for 10 year old...where to source from

Hello

Can somebody advise where to get a economical Arduino l starter kit for a beginner...10 year old.

He has expressed interest which might just be a fleeting moment of inspiration from YouTube videos...so ideally I don't want to spend 100 pounds on a kit which will not get used.

I have seen kits on AliExpress/ Temu with lots of add-ons...no experience in this space.. appreciate official kit is up to 100 pounds in places with an instruction manual

Can somebody advise where to get such a kit from?

Thanks

    Something like: (£48, UK stock)
    thepihut.com/pro…kit
    or (£22+VAT, China):
    aliexpress.com/ite…tml

I'm not familiar with the official kit but generally the idea is that, once you have the main Arduino board, the parts are all fairly generic and interchangeable. You may have to look up the specific parts that you have to find out information on them (eg what chip is on the board you have, and the meaning of particular pins).

This is a useful skill to master (maybe with some help) but it might make it slightly more work than just following a recipe by rote. Also, while wiring changes are relatively straightforward, it is nontrivial if the board you have uses a different chip from the one in a tutorial because that will often mean different software is needed.

It is likely the documentation for the alternative kits isn't as good as the official kit, especially from sketchier Chinese suppliers. That's not necessarily a problem if you just stick to the generic parts. Also don't be afraid to order extra bits from Amazon/ebay/PiHut/Pimoroni which could solve the problem if a project needs a specific part - they are often available for a few quid.

There are links to the project book of the official kit here:
