Google Pay

I use google pay on my phone to pay for purchases in the shops. I would like to be able to leave my card at home and not have to carry it around as a back up. I have heard people say that they no longer carry their card with them.

A few problems that I have experienced when I do not have my card with me as a back up.

1. Google pay doesn't work when there is no data in the building where the pay machine is located
2. The pay machine asks for my card to be inserted and PIN number as a precaution.

Are you guys leaving your credit card at home and rely fully on google pay etc? If so, are you experiencing the sort of problems above? And if so, how do you deal with it?

Just keep your card with you..you never know when these things might go down or you need to withdraw cash.

You need to have a minimum of 2 ways of buying stuff when you are out and about - one just as a backup. If you just had your phone, what would you do if you lost it/stolen/damaged beyond use?

Google Pay allows you to make payments in offline mode (when you're unable to use your data or Wi-Fi), or during a call

    2. Never encountered it, this happens when too many incorrect?

    1. You do not need wifi etc to use GP or AP.
    2. If using your phone with GP or AP it (shouldn't) do that.

When I used to use GP I never had this problem. I still never have this problem with AP.

I use Google Pay on the Tube where there is no signal at some stations at the deeper level gates. I don't remember the last time I actually used the physical card. (edited)

Try using Google pay at a Costco fuel station. Genuine plastic only

You don't need to be online to use Google pay. All it is doing is copying your card details with NFC to the reader and then the card reader sends that with its own internet connection

yeah, so i have been told. i had issues before and it seems when i am indoors. maybe the NFC doesn't work on my phone when there is no data?

I've only got debit cards on my Google pay. I've also never had issues when I had zero signal or asking for a pin. This is in the UK and abroad.

Infact when I tried to add a credit card. It actually said I couldn't.

Might be worthwhile zeroising the app and starting again with adding your cards. (edited)

I use Google pay with a phone with data switched off with no problems. That's on a spare PAYG Giffgaff sim in a old lg5 phone running a very old android version when I'm at work at lunch break or on my way home at the shops.

You need more than one card loaded on wallet then just swipe to another card if nothing happens or you get a PIN request. I've never had a pin request yet though.

I use Google pay so much I get nothing sometimes when using NFC but switching card sorts it. I think you're limited to 6 payments a day on any one card.

I don't carry cards unless I go shopping as that can be over £100.

I use storcard app for loyalty cards as well so don't carry them either although your can add to Google pay (edited)

i was in sainsburys today and it asked for me to insert my card and to use my PIN as soon as i tried to use google pay. but the next transaction, as i did two transactions, one after the other, it accepted google pay

i was hoping to leave my card at home and not have to carry it around with me as there is just one less thing to go missing.

I use GP so much on my phone that i don't even think about having a backup anymore.
I've always assumed that when a machine asks for the card to be put in for the pin it's because the machine knows a card has been used and not a phone?

Some banks require a pin after an amount of touch and go transactions. For Chase it is 5
