Gas and electricity price cap rise on 1st January readings?

Nothing around in news recommending getting a meter reading in so that fuel price rise is correctly billed?
Anyone bothering to update readings?

I'm on Tracker so paying under half the price a lot of the time anyway and have a smart meter.

Me too. 7,7p per kwh for electricity was nice last week

Gas and electricity under £900 for the whole year (4 bed detached) 👌

I've fixed my prices, i can just about manage them. With 2 wars & the cost of living they possibly could increase substantially. Giving an update to the meter readings soon.

I had an email from British Gas reminding me to do it before Jan 1st

My reading date was 27th anyway but I'll try tomorrow then. Last time Outfox the market crashed and I could not do it. Got sorted though.

If you read it on the 27th, don't bother not worth the hassle difference will be minimal

I'm on a tariff that isn't subject to the price cap, so it doesn't effect me. (apart from I'll be saving even more money compared to the price cap)

Yeah. Going to be an interesting year ahead. I like to think the world will calm down and prices will stabilise

Ironically as usage may have been lower due to warm temperatures, they'd most likely estimate you'd used more at the lower price if you didn't do a reading.

Looks like it's going to be another 'happy' year with British Gas.

Because I don't trust these charlatans, I take daily meter readings at the end of the day and record them in a spreadsheet.

I've just taken a reading and, according to the meters, my usage today has shot up - conveniently just before the rise in the price cap!!

Both are smart meters which have been running in dumb mode for about six months so they have been estimating our last few bills which have not been too far off actual usage hence, why I haven't raised the issue with them.

I'm thinking of using this form on their website to submit a pre-1 January reading using 30 December's figures. In my mind, this should allow BG to continue to estimate our usage based on usage history leading to a relatively accurate next bill.

In the new year, I then plan to raise a complaint to get the smart meters fixed or replaced but my concern is they will take the new higher readings as gospel.

Would welcome any advice/guidance on how to proceed as this is new territory for me.

Below is a screenshot of readings for the last week including today - as you can see, the meter seems to think we have used 311 units of electricity and 105 units of gas today!!
