The classic BBC comedy comes to Blu-ray for the first time, starring John Cleese, Prunella Scales, Andrew Saches and Connie Booth.
Basil Fawlty is a much put-upon, hard-working hotel manager whose life is plagued by dead guests, hotel inspectors and riff-raff. Of course his biggest headache is his ‘little nest of vipers’ - his nagging wife Sibyl. Together they run their hotel, Fawlty Towers, with a little help from the unflappable Polly, and Manuel, the trainee waiter from Barcelona with marginally more intelligence than a monkey. Every episode of the BAFTA-winning sitcom in high definition for the first time ever.

SPECIAL FEATURES • Audio commentaries with John Cleese (Series 1 & 2) • Audio commentary with John Howard Davies (Series 1) • Audio commentary with Bob Spiers (Series 2) • 2009 Interviews • Interviews with John Cleese, Andrew Sachs, Prunella Scales • Torquay Tourist Office • Cheap Tatty Review • Out takes • Bonus booklet • Easter Egg

I hope remastered doesn’t mean taking the good stuff out like the Germans episode (edited)

No, they did genuinely clean up the image a bit. No edits.

One of the best sit coms out there. Remastered means absolutely nothing, this was recorded on video and only outside shots were shot on film. They didn't have AI upscaling when this was remastered in 2009 so the picture quality is still absolutely terrible as expected for standard def video from the 1970s.

I wouldn't say terrible, but I guess it depends if you lived through the SD video days or not and what you can tolerate. Certainly compared to modern pristine HD it isn't good, but it's not like a third gen VHS tape recording on LP mode or something. It's a pretty clean image for the most part with OK detail/sharpness.

The 2009 remaster did make some genuine small improvements, cleaned up some of the rough edges and issues with the 1970s camera tech, those little red flashes and such.

There used to be a site with all the comparison screens but seems to be gone now.

    Is it complete or revised?

Complete. They've never censored this on home releases. Yet. I think they do have a warning about language of the time on the back of the latest versions, but that's all. (edited)
