OMEGA Seamaster Diver Master Chronometer 21032422006001

Since 1993 the Seamaster Professional Diver 300M has enjoyed a legendary following. Today's modern collection has embraced that famous ocean heritage and updated it with OMEGA's best innovation and design. The dial is blue PVD chrome colour ceramic and features laser-engraved waves and a date window at 6 o'clock. The skeleton hands and raised indexes are blued and are filled with white Super-LumiNova while the helium escape valve has been given a conical design. The watch is presented on a blue rubber strap and is driven by the OMEGA Master Chronometer Calibre 8800 which can be seen through the sapphire-crystal on the wave-edged caseback.

what im about to say will almost certainly ruffle some feathers but ill call it as it is.. recently i decided to purchase a rolex and an omega. My honest opinion? both were severely overpriced (especially the Rolex) but the Omega was over priced in a different way. The markup on these will be nothing short of extreme. Holding this watch (on steel and rubber/silicone strap) it felt like a 1-2k watch. 4k is good in the grand scheme, but when I held the watch, there was absolutely nothing about it that felt premium. I asked the AD how much the silicone strap was and it was £300ish. If you go on any good watch-strap site, I swear to you, any £20-30 strap will be every single bit as good. The boutique I went to left me with an extremely sour taste in my mouth. Everyone says Rolex ADs are bad, but Omega are too - the one I went to reeked of pretentious people (staff, I mean, not customers).

I bought a Rolex Datejust recently and sent it back because I just couldn't justify the cost over my other watches, my Seamaster being the most expensive of those at £4200. I definitely want a Rolex in my collection but the cheaper ones feel like it to me and the really hot ones are many many thousands more. I also picked up my watch from the Omega store in Liverpool St, London, and was treated really well. Interesting, your opinion! (edited)

It's like if Aston Martin made a car the same as a Ford Focus using the same materials and manufacturing methods as Ford. But instead of selling their Ford Focus equivalent for £20k, they put an Aston Martin badge on it and sell it for £100k.

Aston Martin did - with the Cygnet!

I just don't get how it is £4000, do they just mark it up because it is some fashion thing, but it really costs about £50 to make?
    daddybr00's avatar
The answer is yes, the markup is extreme because it’s a luxury brand (the watch fussies will get uppity if you don’t distinguish this from something like a Diesel or Hugo Boss ‘fashion’ watch even though it’s fashion/status symbol to most, because of appreciating the unique movements and heritage). However, the cost is probably a lot more than £50 nonetheless once you factor in the components, complexity of the movement and assembly (this isn’t quartz), labour, etc. (edited)

Bought a seamaster 300 (black no wave) about 6 years ago and apart from on me small dink looks brand new. Still love it but paid half this. It gets more wrist time than my GS diver but not as much as Khaki Aviation Pilot Pioneer 38m or my 62mas San Martin which was 120 pounds and looks as good as many 1000 watches (which I can wear on holiday / London and not risk mugging)

If I was spending £4k on a watch I'd say expect more than a 5 year guarantee.

I'd also expect my friends to arrange an intervention.

    £4000 ha ha ha . . .
I've seen a £54 version of this - like in this video
    thegrifter1's avatar
I've no doubt it costs Omega nothing like £4000 to make one of these, but whilst your £54 job might look ok from a distance if that's your thing, it won't be anything like as accurate a fake as the one in the video.

The guy says several times that even the fake here costs several hundred pounds, and for £400 they still weren't able to actually replicate the movement (sticking a fake cover over the watches actual movement to make them look similar), the thickness of the watch, quality of finishing etc when you look at it properly.

That ignores the silver markers, rhodium hands etc that Omega uses in the real model, the costs of having a watchmaker assemble parts etc. Whilst it doesn't cos Omega £4000 to knock these out, the idea suggested by a few people above that it only costs them £50 is ridiculous.

I paid 4200 for mine on bracelet a couple years ago, this is a great deal and it's an amazing watch. I plan to own mine for life, and always wanted one, so once you do the maths on that, it's really not that bad!

Yep I brought my one 20 years ago still looks like new will never be selling it
my son says he’s having it  once I’ve gone
the watch is old than him

Nice looking watch. The whole luxury watch idea went out the window for me when I found out Rolex knock out up to a million watches a year.
    gg1pl's avatar
Only Rolex fanbois believe their marketing and think it takes a year to make one.

You get blasted when you say Rolex are mass produced in an assembly line like every other watch

They have a fantasy they are special, all handmade by old watchmakers in a artisan workshop (edited)
