Virgin Media prices increase by 8.9% from April

Just received a letter from VM stating that the cost of my services will be going up by 8.9% (RPI +3.9%). Can I cancel or renegotiate my contract or am I stuck with this until renewal?

    How is this still legal.

    The stand-off observation may be:

potential customer can choose not to be a customer.

The RPI Increase is now written into contracts so you can no longer leave without penalty.

If you have been a customer for a long time, you'll have been given advance notice of the introduction of the RPI Policy being added to contracts, and given the opportunity to leave last year. If you decided to stay then you were considered to have accepted this change.

Contracts commencing from 01 May 2023 have the "RPI+3%" clause.
You can still cancel those contracts early, but cancellation fees will apply.

Not looked for any upgrade-to-cancel clause.

My bill went from £31/month to £74/month with no change in services. So I cancelled. I had 1 call back to offer a "better" deal, £34/month with no change or £29/month to drop to 150Mbps BB. I declined.
I can get unlimited 4G for less which is fast enough for online gaming & YouTube. My missus will miss the TiVo, but she will have to adapt as I just can;t justify the cost. I am also paying for both a Virgin Media SIM & an O2 SIM - something that I have yet to get corrected as I do not have an O2 SIM!

Instead of the TiVo, which will never be yours, why not look at something the gamers use to record their games skill. A good example would be something from ClonerAlliance. It sits between your device and TV, recording through HDMI

moving soon to a non-VM area so apparently can leave my current 18m contract penalty-free

Amazing how big the population of the Orkneys tends to grow on every contract increase

I've got mobile broadband, which is ok for streaming and web browsing for a signal person.  But I miss Virgin Media for game downloads as it is so quick.  It's just the 18-month contract, if I was to move.  Also, the price is quite high as well as these price rises every 12 months.

Last time there was a phone number you could call and they would give you an extra 6months or something automatically at the initial price.
