Changing broadband providers downtime?

Just a quick 1

My NowTV broadband contract is up, and thinking of changing provider.
Wondering would there be a long downtime when switching?

As wife is WFH, so can be quite annoying if it’s a longer period of time.

As we are in a flat, so would only be changing to another openreach fibre? Or whatever this connection is call.

Generally not long. But worst case it could be all day.

The last time I changed I was on CityFibre rather than Openreach. But going from one provider to the other my original connection went off at 2AM. When I woke up at 6AM I plugged in the new router and was immediately online.

It should always be a same day thing. But it wouldn’t be wise to plan to work from home that day unless you’re tethering with 4G/5G data on your phone as a backup in case you’re unlucky.

Wife is fully WFH, and i doubt they switch over the weekend, so kinda risky.
Not too sure if mobile connection can connect to her works VPN, might ask her to try it 1st.

Kinda wanna shop around as NowTV prices ain’t that great.
And been getting packet lost quite a bit lately, also very annoying to get to their customer support.

Never noticed any significant downtime when switching within the Openreach framework.

I should imagine it is just a press of a button at their end. All automated if its all done online ? (edited)

I’m with Vodafone and if you ask them for a line transfer, they take care of everything and it’s all done within two weeks and it’s the best I’ve had. Speed good. No loss of connection in two years and I’ve never had a problem with customer service either, I’m in Preston so each area might be different
