Sneaky huge 20% increase in Aldi potato prices !

Shrinkflation ! Just been in Aldi for the first time for a couple of weeks and found all the 2.5 kilo bags of potatoes are now 2 kilos . Prices still look to be the same per bag so effectively a huge 20% price increase !

Same with Aldi Ridges crisps (spud related), price has dropped to 99p from £1.09 for a 6 pack, but size reduced per pack from 30g to 25g. So was 60p per 100g, now 66p per £100g - effective price increase. Devious.

Actually, its effectively a 20% reduction in weight so equivalent to a 25% price increase

I can only offer some advice that has worked for others on here. Get your best compo face on and contact the Daily Mail.

Negative vibes man . Not looking for compo just trying to warn others in hard times . No doubt Lidl will follow suite very shortly . It will soon be cheaper to shop at Sainsbury's then Aldi and Lidl .

Thanks for the heads up. Very sneaky! Aldi and Lidl are not as competitive as they used to be, but still cheaper, just.

Time to talk the family into buying 25kg sacks wholesale and sharing I think . Spuds keep better with the soil on as well .

Before large superemarkets became commonplace, my mum only ever bought potatoes by the half bag, ie 28lbs (12.7kgs). Then again, we had potatoes or chips with every meal.

I think there was something in the news recently saying something about poor yields because of all the wet weather, just can’t be sure if it was potatoes or just about every vegetable and that we had to rely on imports, I’m wondering if this is a knock on effect.

The xmas potatoes were nice, but afterwards they all were bad. I think its bad season.

I hope this is just temporary due to the bad harvest. If not we shall have to vote with our feet.
