Very low price for one of the better submariner homage pieces. Reviews very well and is a lot of watch for the money.

Enough subtle differences from the original to not quite be a 1:1 if that kind of thing bothers you.

Very good lume and water resistance Vs some many other Chinese brands out there.

Phenomenal value for money, the bezel action is great, the alightment is spot on, built quality is excellent. How can then sell it so cheap.

Is there anything like this but with chronograph dials?

Steeldive don't do chronos to my knowledge. If you're ok with a dip in quality then there's a Pagani Design PD1664 listed as a deal that might interest you.

If you're interested this is an incredible watch for the money, bought one a year ago, keeps much better time than my Seiko and the lume is amazing

The NH35 movement in this is a Seiko movement. They're pretty well regarded generally.

My homage days are over, they never felt quite right to wear, but on a practical level that’s a lot of watch for 50 quid, and I had a couple of Steelseries Willards and they were well built.
    ret1415's avatar
I couldn't agree more with this, I tried a couple of steeldives, Addiesdives and pagani designs and loved them at the beginning and even posted a couple of deals on here for them, I never paid more than £75 for one though...

But sadly the novelty wore off quite quickly for me after a couple of months, never really worked out why, as you said something just never felt quite right, maybe I'm more concerned about a brand/heritage than I once thought...

There is no question though that the materials used on these watches for the price are staggering, it's the quality control and finishing at the lower end you'll notice the most compared to the likes of San Martin.

Luckily you get free returns on most items from AE these days so if you do want to give it a go like I did there's no risk.
Alternatively, you could sell it on eBay, they tend to sell quite well so you shouldn't lose too much money.

In the end, i settled for an older Seiko 5 from 2016 which I spotted in a charity shop for £60, I cleaned and polished it up and couldn't be happier.

Yes the spec is nowhere near these Chinese watches, but it just feels right to wear and fits my needs perfectly, the only feature I miss is the sapphire glass, the hardlex crystal is incredibly easy to scratch.

Honestly though, give one a try you may love it there is no denying they are gorgeous watches!

I'd still love to try a San Martin.... (edited)

I just looked up that Seestern. Really not my bag at all, I just can't get on with that pillow design. To each their own I say!

Edit: also thanks for sharing your Steeldive photos! (edited)

Thought I'd treat myself to a nice watch as I'm at a stage in life where I should be spending money not saving it. Thought you'd get something nice for a couple of grand, looked at Rolexes...eek, so thought I'd settle for an Omega instead...eek again.

So my Seikos will remain the watches for best and I've ordered one of these for the other times. Fakes are sad but nothing wrong with an honest clone.

amazing quality from steeldive, I got SD1970 in november for 43 quid, was baffled with the quality after watching all the reviews, when the watch finally arrived was 10/10 mind blown haha, no brainer!!

Would highly recommend this watch. Unbelievable stats and quality for the money. I bought this watch at Christmas for my son and he loves it. I have various watches covering various price points, but I have to say I have been extremely impressed with this watch. As a side note for those asking, you will NOT be charge import taxes. The price you pay is the price you pay! Seem to remember it took around 10 days for delivery. If you buy one, you will not be disappointed.

Just back from holiday where a rolex wearing chap with the identical watch was admiring my ali express masterpiece. Second holiday with this watch swimming every day and my work watch and still going strong. (edited)

Cheers. Paid £48.04 paying the standard way.

Don't think i'd be comfortable wearing a Rolex in this day and age. Hopefully wont get bumped on the head for a £50 watch.

Ordered 2 watches and used code: hotsale3
Came out to $116 with tax for both watches.
Used fee free credit card and its worked out to be £92 for both watches - great price!!

  22. b1g1an's avatar
As others have said, amazing for the money, amazing for quite a lot more money too. I might have gotten lucky with none of the sharp bits etc and everything lines up. Quality is much better than the ubiquitous Orients that now go for over £200 and seems on a par with my Monster.

Got it as a beater for when I wouldn't wear one of my others bit ironically it looks too good to risk spoiling it

Cheers hadn't looked at 'cheap' watches for a long time.

Just received mine. Love it, beautiful and amazing value for money. My only criticism is that the magnification on the Cyclops lens is far too high. Ironically, it makes the date more difficult to read. I generally dislike Cyclops and wish I was brave enough to remove it.

Says it should be $398 so this is a bargain 🫣

Wonder how the finishing compares to the Cronos Sub:

    aliexpress.com/ite…tml

Its alot more expensive because it has a Sellita SW200 Swiss made movement.

Wonder if there is a no date version. Shame it has a pressed clasp but its not a deal breaker for me at this price. (edited)
    jim157's avatar
Cronos are considered to be the best of the Ali express sub homages. Although when you price up one with a sw200 you are nearly in Glycine territory (when they are reduced in the sales anyway).

Is this a very good AliE offer price, or just a few pounds cheaper than the usual all year round price for this? No idea how to find out.

    About half price I think.

Which metal strap would be better, the one with larger elements or the one with smaller elements?
    face-crab's avatar
    Author
The one with smaller links is called a jubilee strap and is generally considered more dressy, some find it more comfortable, they can be less durable and can stretch over time. The one with larger links is called an oyster strap and is considered more rugged, durable no-nonsense kind of look and feel.

It's all preference but I think most tend to prefer the oyster strap with diver watches as diving is somewhat of a rugged activity and the design of the watch reflects that.

But just get whatever you think looks nicer. Many also prefer to use a NATO strap for submariners. I think the black and grey James Bond NATO strap looks great with the black on black Steeldive here.

There's also a version of this watch with milled clasp costing ~$30 more.

    aliexpress.com/ite…107
    cbates60's avatar
Think all the clasps are milled now. In the £44 listing it says “The bracelet is with milled clasp since 12th Nov/ 2022”

Just got my watch delivered today. Overall impressions are very good for price and quality. Only downside is that it's running 7 secs fast per min. I reckon it will cost me more to get this calibrated by a watch specialist than the price I paid for the watch itself.

I'm not sure what their policy is on acceptable variation per day but I would assume that is grounds for a replacement.
  31. AA_2019's avatar
Is this worth the extra £15 over the Pagani version ?
    face-crab's avatar
    Author
Reviews would suggest so. Better quality control and the lume alone is worth it for me.

Forgot to say, if anyone doesn't like the date cyclops (it is very magnified), it can be removed with a soldering iron (heat up glue) and a razor blade/scalpel. There are videos, posts on teh interwebs on this.
    b1g1an's avatar
Cool, seen people putting flames on it and thought. NOOOOOO!

Did wonder if a soldering iron might be better so thanks for the heads up as it's not really my thing despite being truer to the Sub.
  33. cbates60's avatar
I noticed they eventually limited this deal to 1 variant per person. I had 3 in my cart ready to checkout before it expired last night but not possible. Had to settle with 1 from this deal and a couple from their other listings. Did anyone else notice the Yacht-Master style bezel inserts?

Looks much better but I actually prefer the no date Submariner. Personally I wouldn't remove the Cylops on a Rolex as I'm pretty certain that it would invalidate your warranty.

After a couple days of wearing, I've noticed that the 6 oclock index is slightly misaligned and the bezel 'zero' marker is eeeever so slightly misaligned clockwise. I could live with the bezel misalignment as it's barely noticeable but I can't stop looking at the 6 oclock index now that I've seen it. I'll have to return it but not sure I'll get the same price as the sale is over. I've asked for a coupon but the black on black is now out of stock
