Best Heating + Plumbing Cover

I'm currently paying £40 a month for boiler cover with Domestic and General. It includes annual boiler check and breakdown cover. Also supposedly covers the radiators but we've had issues with ours and they've done nothing to fix it. Simply said it's a balancing issue. I think £40 is way off though and am looking for better options plus looking to add plumbing cover.

Would really appreciate thoughts on the best providers based on your experiances.

Better to save £40 per month in a savings account and pay a local engineer to do a service every 12-18 months (around £70-£90)

£480 a year is crazy when new boilers can be bought for £600! (edited)

As already said, put the money in a savings account and pay for a service from a qualified person each year.

Think you need to read your policy's small print regarding boiler call outs! The OP has asked about servicing contracts.

Not much to service on a yearly basis I would probably have it serviced every 2 years. Then most manufacturers offer a fixed price breakdown repair costs for the worst case scenario or a local technician. Try and find a service engineer that repairs boilers too that way you know who to call in an emergency rather than a gas engineer that just does the service and not repairs.

Would you say this is the case even for a boiler as old as ours? 24 years old. Tbh I’m thinking it might be worth getting a new one now, they come with long warranties and so will be covered for a certain period anyway.

Thanks guys. Makes sense for service, but for emergencies it has come in handy. Being without heating and hot water in winter is hell! But it is expensive, I’m looking at Homeserve which is £14.50 a month. That is for both boiler and plumbing cover.

Better check Trustpilot for reviews of Homeserve's emergency call-out service. I'd have more faith in my regular independent technician. (edited)
