Royal Mail weirdness

I'm expecting an eBay parcel. Checked RM tracking Saturday morning and it hadn't moved since the day before which I assumed was down to Good Friday.

I was surprised to get a notification a few hours later from eBay saying delivered as there was nobody in. I checked the RM tracking and there's a picture of a postie's hand holding a parcel outside my front door.

Get home, no red RM card and no parcel. Neighbours don't know anything about it. Even checked bins etc.

I have no parcel, but as far as eBay are concerned it's delivered. The optimistic part of me thinks maybe it returned to the depot and it'll turn up after the holidays. But then why the cryptic photo and the premature delivery update?

The more realistic part of me thinks they just dumped it somewhere in full view on a busy Saturday morning and some tealeaf has grabbed it. How to negotiate this situation? Anyone had this happen?

It's at your depot, I'm seeing this more and more, posties will take a photo at your door and take it back, I guess to prove they made an attempt.

I had one last week, it was "delivered" at 5am, and the photo was the inside of a RM depot. It got delivered for real several hours later. This is why I don't give the parcel info to my buyers, as I'm sure most would complain or open a case! when only a bit of patience and common sense is required. (edited)

You have to give them the tracking number, don't you

All delivery firms have issues. It is staff dependent. My neighbours asked me to take in a "signature required" parcel containing knives, and warned I would have to produce ID.
I found the parcel on his doorstep. That was Amazon. Yet my Evri driver is the absolute wonder of an agent. She'll wait for you to get to the door, chats with the older generation, and always has a smile

Bizarrely, I've literally just had a parcel for an item purchased on Good Friday, scheduled for delivery on Tuesday, delivered.

Similar to me, purchased two items from a retailer. Part one was dispatched Thursday and is due on Tuesday. Part two was dispatched on Friday due Tuesday but arrived today

It's a strange one isn't it, is it definitely your door ?

If you weren't in and they couldn't leave it with a neighbour or hide it in your shed etc then as you know you should have a red card saying we'll try again the next working day so Tuesday as they automatically redeliver these days.

Having said that I believe royal mail use a lot of casual staff in some locations these days so that could explain why procedure hasn't been followed properly and it may have been taken back to the depot although a bit unlikely.

I think if I were you I'd go straight to submitting an item not received report to royal mail.

Yeah, can recognise the door and the delivery coordinates are correct.

I assumed RM would only deal with the sender for item not received reports?

Good luck - goodness knows where it is. I have dozens of disaster stories with RM - and I avoid purchasing from any retailer when I can - not always possible.

My last parcel showed the same thing - delivered with a photo showing a parcel somewhere (wasn't my parcel - someone else's name and address) Then it came live again 3 days later - attempted delivery next day to another address - unsuccessful. I gave up and rerouted to a post office for delivery - they acknowledged same and it sat stuck for another 4 days. I went to the local office - nope couldn't find it. They said it's maybe at the PO - tried no luck. End of same day showed delivered to my choice of PO - guessing they found it in the DO that day and remembered me.

RM I wouldn't trust with a toothbrush. My local postie has been off now for 2 weeks. Have not received ONE letter in those 2 weeks - usually received between 6-12 letters a week. They need gone soon!!

They don’t post a card anymore. They came to deliver mine and I saw him on my camera taking it back with him but I didn’t know he delivered it to my naibours .
Think they need to bring the cards back!
