Reliable Digital Movie Purchasing Companies

Hi, I'm thinking of starting a digital movie collection and am swaying towards sky store. However it appears that even purchases can be easily taken off you if the content company loses rights to the movie.

Is this common or am I safe for years to come?

Thanks

Apple are the best I've used
Great 4K, extras and free upgrades

I have never had a purchase go missing or erased, though they can probably change movies and TV shows as people get sensitive over subjects, which are subsequently cut.

Though I have only just noticed, I bought Never say Never again about 6 months back, just recently watched it and it contains the horse scene which has been cut from any British release

There's a lifespan on everything. Remember VHS?

If you're worried, stick to physical media, which will be around for some time to come (edited)

That's what annoyed me. They can remove/cut content whenever they want.

Buy on disc, then rip yourself.

Install Plex server on something (the device choice is huge, whatever suits you) and have your own personal "Netflix" type service

This.  A mate of mine has over a 1000 dvd's and BluRays. Movies and series. He always has something to watch.

It's *very* rare for companies to remove content from their platforms, but it does happen and people are becoming more aware that they're not actually buying content.. they're buying a license to view it.

Realistically the chances of something you've purchased being removed are very slim, but it's still a possibility. Personally I wouldn't bother because I don't trust these sort of companies in the slightest, but if the pros of buying digital outweigh the cons for you then go for it.

You have answered your own question. Digital content can be removed any time. It will be buried in the t&c that nobody reads.

But how often is content actually removed once purchased

Look what happened to my UltraViolet collection, which then got moved to a Flixster account which was then dissolved.
You have to appreciate that digital content is never owned - only leased.
I have even lost access to games I paid for due to licensing issues (Friday 13th as one example)

Before it closed down, I as well as many others on here was able to migrate 95% of my ultraviolet library to my google/gmail account - so I can now watch them via Youtube as well as via the Google TV app (or whatever it's currently named) depending on the device.

Apple seem to be one of the companies that'll still be here for a long time to come, I'd start my digital collection with them.

OR just purchase physical blurays, that way the companies can't remove them/update them, but you'll need actual space to store 100's or 1,000's of blurays
