Virgin media price rise

Hi I took 18 months contract last year April 2023. When I take contract they told me they will be no price rise until end of your contract which is October 2024. The actual plan is 150mb speed for £44 then they add £20 discount, so I was paying £24 since last month. But this month they charge 8% extra £26.11. I try to contact customer service they said it increase for everyone so they can't do anything. I don't know why they given false information when I sign up my contract. I don't know what to do. Can I leave as it is. Or do I have to report to someone? Thanks.

Read the terms and conditions in your contract. Inflation linked increases +3.9% have been there for at least 12 months. Most others do the same now. Ofcom useless like every other quango.

You can raise a complaint and ask they review the call when you started the new contract, you could also request a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) and review it yourself by asking for that call recording and any notes be sent to you.

If you were given incorrect information at the point of sale, the contract isn't valid as you don't have what you agreed to.

Did there lower the price before so when April comes, price you quatoed was price you got

I took a renewal out in August 2023, and my contract clearly stated about the increase.

In future call before month, and get better deal, and factor in price rise next year as well now

called yesterday, they didn't have good offers. they told me to webchat, and they couldn't offer me better than the offers that showed in my account. spend an hour and a half between phone and webchat, with 3 different people, including retentions

Been there, done it got the T-shirt with these guys. They always say they won't increase it to me but always end up creeping it up... I was paying £29, it said last week £31.10 it'll be next bill, tbh I'm still getting a good deal 264mb, tv and phone, but is annoying when they said it wouldn't go up until the end of my contract (edited)

If total £12 - £13 until contract-end is worth the effort:

the archive page below indicates the Virgin Media:
Terms and Conditions - TV, Fibre, Phone (from 1 May 2023)
    and the immediately preceding
Terms and Conditions - TV, Fibre, Phone (from 9 November 2022)
where the latter will apply to your April 2023 contract.
    web.archive.org/web…gal

In summary from quick scan read:
your pre-May 2023 contract appears to have no provision for automatic annual price rise but does has provision for anytime price rise(s) subject to you being given 30 days to terminate at no penalty if you do not accept the price rise(s).

Suggest two questions to consider presenting to VM:
    1) pls confirm the (date of) t&c applicable to my contract
    2) pls identify the t&c paragraph permitting VM to apply the recent price rise

Assuming you manage to contact a VM CS rep that is capable of understanding & accurately answering those questions:
the response to question 2 is likely the critical factor in deciding whether or not you will need to demand any record of an April 2023 promise to not introduce price rises prior to Oct 2024.

Depending on VM response you may be able to choose to terminate the contract early at no penalty,
or if you are confident that you can show the price rise has been incorrectly applied but you wish to continue the services at the original price:
you could consider doing nothing until Oct 2024 then present a claim for the accumulated cost of 6 months of increase, which will be about £12 - £13.

For ref, the quick dirty summary using selected quoted text from 09 November 2022 t&c:
Changes to prices, terms and conditions and the services we provide to you...
    • We may increase our charges under this agreement at any time

N 6. if we and/or Virgin Media Payments:
    1. increase our monthly charges under this agreement;...
    (c) ...the changes are not exclusively to your benefit, we will notify you of this and inform you of your right to cancel the affected supplementary service and this agreement without paying an early disconnection fee by giving us notice in accordance with the instructions set out in our notification.
