    Deary me.

You have a shotgun f type cable, you have a TV which has freesat......at what point do you get off hukd and actually get up and plugging one of those cables into the back of the TV, entering the menu and choosing satellite tuning and see what channels you get? (edited)

whats the benefit of using the freeview play app instead of a freesat box??

Freeview play requires aerial and internet connection

Just to throw a potential further spanner into the works after all of the above - not all satellite installations are equal. If you don't get any channels after tuning then there is a chance that the sat dish is setup for Sky Q which uses a "Wideband" LNB (the bit on the arm facing the dish) rather than the older Sky+ HD.

If this is the case then you have two options:
    - If you can reach the dish easily it's usually not difficult to swap the LNB to a conventional one - cost maybe £15 if you can do it yourself
    - Failing that you can get yourself the current Freesat box (used to be made by Arris, not sure if it goes under a different name now) which is also compatible with the Sky Q style wideband LNB.

To be honest - looking at the cables in the pic, they look old enough to be pre-Q - but as I mentioned earlier in the thread - it'll work or it won't. No point buying a box without knowing if the cables and dish are sound.
