Insurance/DVLA help

Help,
To cut a long story short my old ford focus was written off my Copart nearly 2 years ago. Anyhow it was brought and shipped to Ireland. DVLA were instructed it was a write off and i was no longer the owner of the car.
Fast forward to this April and my insurer AXA state I've been in an accident in Belfast with the focus! It's not even on my insurance documents….
I've sent them corrospondce from Copart and AX who dealt with the claim and proof i was in work and receipts from costa in North Wales. However they state they need proof from the DVLA to confirm I'm not the owner 🙈 I've asked them to deal with it it, however they are refusing. I've tried contacting the robots on DVLA phone and been on hold for over an hour on my breaks but no joy. Does anybody know a direct way to contact them?
Sorry for the long post and thank you

This may not help now, but in the future.
I scan Log books, Licence, Tax returns etc and email them to myself.
That way anywhere in the world I have access.

I don't know if this will help but download Vehicle Smart app on your phone and type in your focus reg in there and it will show when was last change/issue V5C on DVLA records.

There is another way to do it as well if you check MOT history on Gov.com it will show you there too last change on V5C from DVLA. Hope that helps and good luck.

You could check enquiry.navigate.mib.org.uk/che…cle to see if it is currently insured, or it might show the last date of insurance as being in your time, in which case the insurance company will hound you first to avoid losing profit (edited)

Thank you all for the comments. I've been with AXA for a number of years and since the focus I've had 3 other cars on my account. The concern now is that i have an open case on my file. Luckily I'm already insured and
Not due renewal till next year. However they keep hounding me for proff or non ownership and told me i have to contact DVLA (like that is possible to get to a human!) I've also raised a breach of data protection as that car has not been on file since 2022! That failed anything at all. I've also said how can i be in Wales and Belfast they said that's not proof.
I'm losing the will to live 😩

Try carvertical.com/gb i believe that shows the entire history of a vehicle and the write off should be recorded on there? As well as anything else that happened after you were no longer the owner. it is a paid service FYI

Just write to them stating the facts and asking if they still want you to contact DVLA on their behalf. If so, there will be a £40 Administration fee, payable in advance. Please also conform in writing if you no longer need my services in this matter.

I've emailed and taken calls from them and told them clearly I've sent proof of my location on that date and an email from AX stating the write-off. They still demanding I provide proof I'm no longer the owner and now holding this as an open claim on my insurance document

Did you get the slip from DVLA confirming this?

Was there any refund of road tax due?

Maybe a few pence as it was only £20-30 a year

In which case you might be able to use this as proof that DVLA were informed and acknowledged that you were no longer the owner.

i dont understand why your insurance company is even entertaining any of that if they are not even the insurers of the car!

first thing i would be doing is getting rid of them, before doing anything else. (edited)

the onus of proof for anything is not on you.
if AXA stupidly thinks they insure you then let them satisfy the claim. give everything a stiff ignoring. At some stage down the line you may get a letter from a human being and if you are really lucky it will be from one who knows their job and checks all the facts.

You should ask them to cease sending you harassing emails and remove all personal data from their databases. If you are no longer an account holder/customer of theirs they should not have any reason to hold your data. If they refuse take a look at this

Is it not though the car owner's responsibility to inform DVLA when transferring ownership/selling etc and then they have to be able to prove that they have received the slip back from DVLA?

It may be that the car is currently uninsured, and as you're the last one to be insured, they'll chase you first

    was written off my Copart

I thought it was the insurers that write off cars and copart is just the salvage auction?

If your car was written off you would have communication of some sort.
