Looks great but aren't speeds a bit low for an M.2 drive?

These speeds are like in the teratoriy of SATA SSD speeds.
    The.Fat.Cat's avatar
Only the sequential speeds, which only matter if you spend a fair amount of time writing/transfering large files.

OS/app/gaming performance will be no different than the majoiry of other more expensive drives, including gen4. (edited)

Heat for the deal btw. Please could anyone advise if this would fit in a Dell Optiplex 3050 and would there be any heat issues?
    BenChoad's avatar
Yes this will fit. It's a gen 3 so should be fine heatwise, it's the gen 4s that need cooling generally. (edited)

Anyone know if this'll work on a MSI B450 Tomahawk Max?

I'm looking for an enclosure for this SSD, so I can use it as an external SSD.

Anyone know if the enclosure needs to be SATA compatible to use this SSD in?

I'm thinking it doesn't need to be but I'm not 100% sure...

    Thank you for any replies!

Have an Orico enclosure bought from Aliexpress from a deal on here.Cost under £9 and delivered in under 2 weeks.

This is the one I have and have used it with Kioxia 500GB drives

Be aware your speeds will be limited to around 500 as you are using USB

I've bought this to replace my 'files' drive, an old 7200rpm... yeah. However, it may be better used as a primary. Would this or my current Aorus Gen4 500GB be quicker by any meaningful measure? (model GP-AG4500G) Thx
    Solee's avatar
Nope, no real world difference would be noticable between the Aorus and this as on OS drive.
You would only notice it if transfering large files.

    Great for Macmini and hub

Could this be used as an external SSD hard drive using a caddy or something?

If so what do I need?

    Just for normal backups.

    Thanks. (edited)

Yes, just look on Amazon for an M2 enclosure, I got one that can handle NVMe and SATA for less than £20

They changed their DRAM to Sk Hynix. That is the case for the G2 version where it also had Samsung dram in the past. Cost savings I suppose. (edited)
    The.Fat.Cat's avatar
As long as it performs the same, does it matter?
