I haven’t upgraded the firmware yet - it may already be on the PS5 “friendly” version. I’ll have to check. I paid £185 each for mine. That’s the price of early adoption, I guess.
I also have a couple of the SN850. It’s also a good drive. Functionally I can’t see much difference between them for my purposes. It seems to run a little warmer than the Samsung, but not in a way that affects performance.
with heatsink if you're buying for a PS5

Yes
Although if you have no means to do it. You can contact Samsung they’ll Arrange a label and u can send it back and they’ll do it (edited)
Samsung
£103.70 with the heatsink. Just ordered.

I need a 2tb one or 4tb (edited)
I bought one a couple of months ago and it exceeded the advertised speeds out of the box. A firmware update increased it slightly (around 100mb), but such a small amount as to not stress about.
If you're the OCD type that is going to have sleepless nights knowing that you don't have the absolute fastest speeds possible then find a way to get it updated. Otherwise just enjoy a very quick SSD out of the box!
Yes, you need to go via discount portals (if you have access to) to get the deal price.
Nicely stated
I’ve been running a 980 pro (non-heat sink version) on my PS5 without issue for a few months. That was on version 4B2Q. I upgraded that to 5B2Q last night.
I ended up ordering two of these yesterday. One from Amazon for same day delivery, and one through this deal.
I haven’t opened up the one that came direct from Samsung yet. But the one from Amazon had a production date of 1st December 2021, and shipped with firmware 3B2Q.
The one which was delivered today from Samsung has a production date of 14th December 2021, so I suppose it might have 4B2Q on there. Various posts online suggest that 4B2Q was released on 2nd December 2021.
I won’t be opening the one from Samsung until after the weekend, but hopefully someone can give some feedback on the version that they’re shipping.
I changed my PS5, put black plates on it now it feels like an updated version and looks really nice. lol
One with a heatsink
Is it hard to take off the heatsink?
Just buy the Standard without heatsink version for laptop.
Thanks, that's perfect. I was concerned as I did not have a way to do this but it's good to hear Samsung are willing to help do this
i just use the search function and put in 980 then it should show up but i think you can also find it in computing - memory and storage - nvme ssd

That depends. If your motherboard has one then nope.
But ether way you need one. You can/but shouldn’t run without it. (edited)
Yes
Why go for seagate? From youtube reviews it doesn’t look like theres much difference
