    Sandybridge though.

It hasn't got an SSD or mSATA SSD cache drive either.

For this price you will not get a laptop under 21mm thick touchscreen with SSD, Just replace the hard drive with SSD !

I thought the idea of calling it Ultrabook was based on the fact it must have an SSD drive, right?

    Haha, your poor ba*ls!

Thermal inertia of a solid sphere is a function of radius as well as temperature difference. He might well argue that his balls are cold, but if they were a bit bigger, they'd have stayed warm a lot longer.

damn some of you people are just too needy.. its cheap and your expecting all the bells and whistles.. it's only a small portable laptop with a touch-screen for on the go... it's not meant to be a damn powerhouse pc/laptop.

But then your requirements will change as specs go higher. You will be waiting forever for 'the right deal'.

You have to be careful with the i3 Vivobooks. They do two i3 versions, the i3 2365M & the i3 3217U. The former is noticeably poorer in benchmarks than the latter. It's usually the i3 2365M models that get discounted too. (I have a S200, the 11 inch version).

Bought the ivybridge version early in the year for less than this. Yeah, I can't go back in time, but how the hell older slower less efficient tech is worth more is beyond me.

    Shivering.

Edit - realised this the 14", not 11"... would have thought 11" be more expensive too. I can't feel my balls I'm that cold now.

Really good price and was going to buy in a heartbeat but then I saw the CPU which is two generation old now, not expecting Haswell for this price but Sandy bridge either, shame. Still a very good price price though if you don't care about that as these Asus laptops are gorgeous and Windows 8 makes so much more sense on a touch screen.
  18. deleted355279's avatar
Don't expect the RAM to be upgradeable either. They're often soldered to the board when they try and make super slim chassis.
  19. cooliusxp's avatar
As long as you don't mind missing out on the touchscreen you can pick up ultrabooks with much better specs (CPU, SSD) than this. Plenty of i3 Ivybridges around for £300-400 since Haswell launch.
  20. freebiehunter's avatar
I find the touchpad on the Asus very clunky, not up to the usual quality

That is an excellent price! I have a Latitude 10 tablet with Windows 8. Even though it's atom powered, it still performs v.impressively (Full HD video editing using Cyberlink Powerdirector Mobile for touch). I also bought one of the 11.6" versions of this Asus laptop for a family friend - the build quality is v.nice, as is the screen. I'd definitely recommend this laptop
(I would far sooner take a touchscreen with Asus build quality over a different laptop with a newer generation Intel processor. Windows 8 comes alive when combined with touch).

Have you tried using Windows 8 without touch? I tried using a mouse on my Latitude 10 tablet -- it really isn't nice at all. If you plan to spend any time in the Metro side of Windows 8, get a touch screen laptop.

I'm looking for something that is light, looks good and has a good battery life, would this be it? I cant work it out!
  25. BB89.'s avatar
for alll those who are adamennt of battery life even the ivy bridge compared to the sandy does not provide a huge difference in power efficiency. for that you have to wait a while for the haswell chips which are far more efficient but also new so prices are high

Maybe not on the battery life front. You would need to wait for the Haswell powered laptops (with correspondingly high prices).
PC World used to stock both the 11.6" and this 14" version...give your local shop a call and take a look at it in person. I personally highly rate these Asus touchscreens. They work v.well in normal desktop mode, and also come alive in Metro/touchscreen mode (a place where normal Windows 8 laptops - ultrabook or otherwise - fail ).

As ever, read the details that the OP listed. You'll see that there is a Tesco's discount code that brings the price down.

just use the arrow keys combined with the enter key, tab key is handy too!

so may win8 haters who obviously haven't tried out basic functions,

win 8 with classic shell installed gives best of win7 & win8 in one.

i'm looking for something similarly spec'd though not bothered about touch screen. How can you tell the difference between ivy bridge, sandy bridge etc? and when do you think the haswell chips will start to enter these laptops?
