    £685 extra for 26mm floor...

Anyone got any expert opinions on this log cabin? I.e. would you need to buy anything else to complete it?

Got one in 2021 3x5. Quality is good. I wouldn’t go for any extras as they are overpriced. You can locally source floor much cheaper. I just put laminate down for £200. Looks better too. The only headache was concrete slab, done it myself using concrete mixer and it was hard work. In hindsight, I’d just pay someone to put the slab down. Building the thing is easier than Lego set (edited)

Good shed ... but anyone knows how the bearers look like on this. Is any flooring/ bearers included. Asking because I want base insulated with PIR/Kingspan.

Thanks to op. I think you saved me some money but introduced a big DYI job over the summer :-) (edited)

Just done my own which was the Sadie. The floor comes with bearers even if you don’t buy the floor pack. Also bear in mind you can live chat Tuin they are always very heklpful. Here’s a photo of what the bearers look like

    which came from their site.

Happy to answer any questions as I bought it from them and then project managed it through to this

I have this log cabin for the last two years.

It's decent but you have to factor in extras.

Base, I went for reinforced decking as it gave more space in front and to side. I guess concrete would work well.

Treatment , as stated it's untreated wood. I treated mine before building and it took ages to do. You can buy the wood pre treated, but an option extra.

Insulation, I added 40mm kingspan to the floor and roof. The floor I then added decent household floorboarding on top. The roof I added OSB on top. Kingspan sandwich.

I've painted the shed with decent protek exterior paint. Quite a few coats.

    The EPMD is good stuff.

I upgraded the timber bearers to some which help move the water away.

I also added guttering to the back of the shed which collects into a butt.

Assembly took us about 1.5 days, this includes laying out the Vulcan rubber on the roof before sticking down.

In all a great shed which I use daily.

Do you have any pictures when raising it? Just interested to see the whole process and if I can do it myself or get some paid 'help'

this is th size im loking for. but i need it for a gym space - what are your thoughts on this, and what would i need for the floor?
    Robdataff's avatar
If there are bearers in the kit, I'd double them and use the thickest osb you can afford for the floor. And I'd put halfords rubber mats on top. Or dropping weights might be problematic.

Shed marketing - 100% planks, call it a log cabin as it sounds posh and it will sell
    dberrypro's avatar
Yep, I think I'd probably go for a brick/breeze block built shed if I required it.

    Where are the logs?

    Have you checked the toilet?

I ordered a shed from Tuin and around the time it was due to be delivered, they told me there was a delay of unspecified length. I cancelled and ordered from Dunster House who delivered on time. (edited)

Does anyone know what the lifespan of these sheds will be ? Considering it is managed decently and installed professionally on a newly built solid concrete base ?.

I'd expect 15-20 years as long as properly installed and maintained - use a decent treatment regularly and install on a decent base. Installing it on composite profiled foundation beams will also help massively.

Loved building mine. Would happily do again.

It’s all about the base though. Level and strong where walls will rest or you’ll regret it.

insulated my floor and roof with Kingspan. Use it all year round.

    Tuin were great.

Agree on this comment, the absolutely most important bit is the base, made to the exact footprint of the cabin. Done correctly you'll have no problems and it'll last a lifetime.

Have a good read through Tuin's excellent how to guides.

The free roof shingles took comfortably the longest time to fit if you do them properly. Quite a nice job if you have some patience!

look at the faq on tuins site. it is very good and will answer all your questions. you will need to treat and paint. there is no need for ventilation under the cabin due to its design. you will need a level base or you will have a mare with doors / windows lining up. you can level with wedges if need be.

    It’s not a log cabin

Looks like one, smells like one, tastes like one. That’s good enough for me

Bearers best with treated C24's with 2 x coats farmers oil ( red deisel mixed with used engine oil ) I also wrapped mine bottom half with dpc stapled at tops, all good as gold so far

That must have made it stink to high hell for a while.

40mm wall logs…? This is not a term in the lexicon of any carpenter on the planet.

    Again a cabin non treated

I have a corner cabin from Tuin and the quality is excellent despite being one of the cheaper models.

I've had flooring fitting, electricity and it's been my home office since the pandemic.

Just don't install in direct sunlight if it can be avoided. They warm up to about 40 degrees by 11am on hot days.

In the winter, they warm up in minutes with an air heater.

No issues with dampness and or leaks.

    "wall logs". 40mm

    thin planks, then.

Log cabin is a marketing description just like real leather.

Don't assume when buying 'real leather' you are getting a slice of the hide either. (edited)

I am considering getting one to use as a VR games room.
    Just a couple questions:
    1) would I need planning permission for one of these?
    2) Am I better using a gazebo or something else for that purpose?
    3) How often would these need wood treatment?
    Thanks in advance
    StevenW007's avatar
    No planning permission required
Not sure a gazebo would work for a games room unless you only use it occasionally and only in good weather
Treatment wise do it properly first time then probably just a repaint every few years
