Recently tried my car con and it’s smells abit off , does it need degassing it’s ice cold though (edited)
    R_ee_t's avatar
No, just change your cabin filter and make sure it's a carbon filter

Been posted before. Only valid at branches that do aircon. Expires tomorrow, Wed 31st may. I went to the one in Maidstone because my car hasn't been done since New - 6 years old. After dropping my car off they then called me and said the aircon is still cold and it doesn't need doing - I can call head office to get a refund. That was nice, and honest! (edited)

Interesting, I live in maidstone so may give them a shout, nice one.

How often do people think you need to regas? VW told me 18 months ago it ‘needed doing’ but ‘the leasing company will never approve it’. It blows cold air, but 16 and 20 it’ll blow the same when it’s warm outside. As summer is approaching not sure if it’s worth getting it done?
    SJ17's avatar
If it's not cold all the time, but some of the time, it's time for a regas.

If it's always warm, you've got a leak.

Won’t let me book beyond May

My 2017 Skoda Superb hasn't been blowing cold for a few months now. Got my servicing parts arriving tomorrow so wondering whether to wait until I've swapped out the cabin filter before biting the bullet for the top up. I would need to drive from Poole to Portsmouth for R1234YF, but the £62.50 saving along with a Costco fuel fill up would make the drive worth it . Not sure how I feel about them asking to arrive before 9AM though! Surely they have a slot system?

Won't make any difference when you change cabin filter. The gas system has nothing to do with the cabin filter or the air flow.

The condenser, is probably goosed like mine. Look through the bottom grill on front bumper and this is the condenser. I've barely any fins left on bottom third!

Is the extra clean option just a squirt of sanitising spray down the vents? Or does it involve cleaning the actual AC system/pipes and lubing them etc?
    deanos's avatar
i bet it’s probably one of those bomb things that cost £5

damn it just what I needed, but the Manchester one isn't open at weekends and I'm working during the week.

Anyone know if the groupon deal with ats is ever coming back? I've been waiting for that for ages
    MohammedNaveed's avatar
I just spoke to manchester they haven’t got anyone trained to do the job, Derby or Sheffield

Thanks for posting. I'm a bit confused about the dates. Do they refer to the year of your car? If so , what product is appropriate if your car is 2014, 2015, 2016 ? Does anyone know?

Ask your local dealer. The reason why I say this is because for example hybrid cars should never be done by these places. They have to have a different oil injected into their system than the oil that gets into non hybrid cars, electric cars are also the same. You will destroy your AC system if you get it re-gassed and you have a hybrid or electric car.

I had the r1234yf gas done recently at Mr Clutch which is supposed to leak more than the older gas (up to 5% per year). They also said it's still cold but I asked them to do it anyway as it's been 4 years or more since it was last done. Of the 460g of refrigerant meant to be in the system there was 288g left. (Or that's what they vacuumed out). It is now back up to 460g and blowing a bit colder and should hopefully be good for another 4 years or so. They provide a print out with this detail on after complete or should do. (edited)

If the air con pipe is leaking (70% of cars over 10 years old) -
guess what will happen if you recharge.
    Robdataff's avatar
It'll be lovely and cold for the week before you sell it?
  11. Stuntgut's avatar
Do it myself. Much cheaper, I know it is filled up, and only takes 10 minutes.
    stuartie94's avatar
Wouldn't have the first clue how to do it myself lol

This is exactly what I needed, cheers

£62 Seems cheap for 1234 or am I missing something?

Thanks - just booked in for Friday... My aircon doesn't exist!
  16. Yakkyda's avatar
Always ask for new valve stems when you get aircon work carried out, it costs pennies .
If you're told you don't need new stems - go elsewhere. (edited)

I agree, I don't know why it's not standard practice. I personally use an air con specialist for my re gas. That's all they do so they won't cut corners.
  17. johnrchilds's avatar
When it reaches a point you are googling place names that you don't recognise in the hope they are local because you know summer is coming but you don't want to pay much at all for a recharge, you realise you have got a problem...

Anyone live in the north east suggest somewhere reasonable for an air con refill?
  18. liverman's avatar
Great deal, got mine done on Friday at the Manchester branch, nice lads and was in and out in just over an hour, £64 for the new 1234yf is really good value.
  19. Bash_er's avatar
Found out it is sadly only valid at certain branches.
  20. Frank_peterson's avatar
Got mine done at ATS , £41.99 with voucher from groupon .
  21. deleted9453's avatar
    I think they mean R134A Pre 2017.

Good deal but none near me - I will wait for the groupon to pop up shortly for ATS as I have done for the last two years. I might even change my condenser before the recharge as I am fairly sure this is where my gas is escaping from.

Do you get a free bottle of snake oil with this deal?
    deleted9453's avatar
Air con recharge is snake oil? That's a new one.

Any good car service deals, don't really want to pay VW £300 for a main service of a golf.

I dont do Mr.Clutch any more ever since they broke my headlight adjuster by forcing it the wrong way on an MOT...so good luck with them who ever uses them, hope they dont snap your connectors for refills

It really is branch dependant... one Euromaster I would never go back to after a botched tyre replacement / AC valve issue and missing parts. Another I went to gave top notch service.
  28. aj_mckay's avatar
Perfect. I'm just in the middle of replacing most of the ac system on my '99 BMW
  29. deanos's avatar
anyone used Norwich, on hols down that way soon and my air con dies not seem as cold as it should
  30. Middo's avatar
Annoyingly not all branches do it.

I did at hayes branch in my old car, don't think they did the proper checks. Showed me blowing cold the day I left with a print out showing a full can used. 2 days later when next tried to use it was empty. Decided not to use Mr clutch again. (edited)

Worked perfectly in Milton Keynes, booked in for tomorrow as I desperately needed this done. Thanks OP for saving me £60!
    haiderinho's avatar
same, but doesnt let me book a slot. Need to take in at 9am
  38. karanbajaj90's avatar
They took £60 from me even after telling them my ac needs a repair as it has a leak..
    NoNamesLeftWhy's avatar
I ended up having a leak and they refunded me the money must be person/branch dependant.

I had a 1999 honda civic from 2002 to 2017, A/C was never re filled and it was still cold and the compressor came on and off. What a car! , very efficient but due to ulez I donated it. Hybrid cars have electric compressors, sealed like a fridge, unless the heat exchanger develops a leak. Just saying. It's not a must to regas every interval, unless it's not working, in which case you got a leak.

Thanks op, Just booked online with my local branch for £47.93 using voucher above!

Aircon Regas + Air Con Antibacterial clean
    deleted9453's avatar
Wouldn't bother with the clean. It's just a can of air freshener they out in cabin.

Changing pollen filter would help more.
