    3600 vs 5600

Summary: 3600 provides decent performance and sometimes matches 5600, you don't necessarily need more power when building pc on a budget

I have a 3600 and got to the same conclusion that an upgrade is not really required.

A 'good' price, but be aware that the 5600 can be had very very little extra money, and Zen 3 is a vast leap over Zen 2. I wouldn't consider the 3600 at 85 quid - the saving just isn't worth it, given that the 5600 is a bit more power efficient, a LOT faster, and otherwise goes in the same socket with the same cooling solutions.

Yeah I would recommend the 5600 if you NEED the extra performance but it is currently 55% more expensive than the 3600 so I wouldn't call it "very very little extra money." The 3600 is still a great cpu regardless. (edited)

Good deal but requires a GPU which start at about £300 for a worthwhile one.

The 5600G is a better deal if you just want something to do web browsing/email as it has a built in GPU that's not great for gaming but more than powerful enough for watching videos and using chrome.

Good sand for a cheap gen 4.0 setup. Just pair with a B550 board and 3600mhz ram and your golden.

Pair it with an Nvidia RTX 3070 and it will do 1080P gaming at 100fps+ all day long as evidenced by the links I gave in another post I made above ^ (edited)

You can get them 2nd hand in the region of 65 so its a good price, i’m still running one with a 5700xt and its a solid chip.

As others have said the 5600 is a better chip but if you are planning to game putting the extra into your gpu will net you a better experience.

The exception being 4080/90 types but if you have those pennies you probably wouldn’t be considering a last gen chip anyhow (edited)

A 3600 will struggle to hit even 100 fps in some games, so irrespective of GPU, a 3600 is probably only OK for 60 fps gaming. For perspective, it performs somewhere between a 8600K or 8700K from 2017. (edited)

Good price but shame it doesn't come with a cooler. I guess it would work well for those upgrading though.

Coolers suck anyway you want a 3rd party one they are noisy!!! Ryzen cpus constantly spike I'm temp so the fan on cheaper coolers will be speeding up and down all day.

Be aware that it looks to be the OEM version with no cooler.

Can probably find someone nearby on FB marketplace for £5, most likely without thermal paste. Or eBay for like £10.

Or just get a better cooler for £20+ tbh

I also have a 3600 and it's plenty good enough for 1080p gaming and general tasks. I run it with a GTX 1070, 32gb RAM and NVME. I never get the feeling of having to wait for things to finish.
