Curious how much MSI would have to offer in cash to offset their horrendous customer support..

Don’t think you can get the tower 100 from palincomp Beside the case, there is not much going for this build.

Corrected that for you! :D

If this case is sold separately one could build one into it. The printers with enclosures are usually not cheap so it might be worth it. (lol)

plewis00

Seems expensive for a 2060 build, prices for all cards are coming down now - I suspect 3060 will not be much more yet offer much more performance.

Fly_agaric

I grew up in a "small enter" keyboards country. As soon as I started using UK layout I knew I'm not coming back to US layout no more. I use my keyboard for more than just gaming, so it matters.

fishmaster

Nah it's worse than that, the backspace is in the wrong place and it has a half height Enter/Return key. It's definitely horrible to use if you're used to a UK keyboard. I like the Varmilo Beijing Opera keyboard but it's only available in ANSI/USA so it's a no go for me.

Elivercury

Yeah, cannot get past small enter key by touch typing which can can incorrect labels!

Gkains

Whenever I have used a US layout keyboard it has been the small enter key which drove me mad. Guess it depends on what you are used to. Enter is not part of WASD so gamers might not care much anyhow!

Pheeb

I bought one of these when they were 15 quid and it works fine, but the key strokes are too long for gaming.

Mine boots fine, just slow, it boots so can't grumble I guess, but it's sluggish boot. Mine will be booting the same speed as yours almost certainly, it's just slow compared to other boards but it is a low midrange board, I don't have anything much to say about it, other than it works. With regard to GPU upgrade I got one from Novatech a Gigabyte RTX 3060 OC 12GB last week. Not the best card for the money but I will be selling my Mac Mini 2014, i7 3rd gen system and 1060 3GB which will more than fund the purchase. I only wanted a GPU upgrade so I can use my VR headset properly with games, the 1060 3GB was a sack of s%^te for that job.

henry.ford

Hmmm, you've said it a few times but mine boots fine. More importantly, where the heck did you get a GPU upgrade from? :o

fishmaster

I have a Mortar Max, one tip; whatever you do DON'T plug anything USB in the USB port marked BIOS Flash as even if you don't press the Bios Flash button above it, it will still lock up the PC for 3 or 4 mins whilst it tries to read whatever USB device is plugged in. Wasted an hour of my time last night when I upgraded PSU + GPU and plugged something in that port. I'm not a big fan of the Mortar Max or MSI in general I find them slow to boot. I guess if you have a major budget go for it, but I'd look elsewhere.

Yes, if you really want to run the PCIe 4.0 M2 drives then you need the '5' gen boards, like B550 or X570. An 'M' on the end just means micro ATX, I think. I didn't see the benefit, so I just went with B450 but I know what you mean. Also, I went with Crucial Ballistix 3600MHz, CL16, which benchmarks really well (y)

sarden84

Sweet man. But I have to ask as I'm nosey haha. Vega6 is nice so I presume some benefit in other fields with the 1gb old card? - Might be losing some performance somewhere else - I was thinking

lemmi_winks

Looks really good, I especially like the itx build.

Si_Roberts

I did an itx build with an i5-3470 with 8gb, 240gb ssd , case with PSU and threw in a 1gb graphics card and dvd that I had lying around for £95 with parts from eBay which apart from the motherboard were practically brand new, using it as a retro emulator

Depends on what games i guess. I'm into Sim racing and my 2060 laptop struggles with ACC with anything over 12 other cars. RaceRoom runs ok [Quest 2 for VR] Both these games are CPU intensive though, so it's possible a better CPU and 3070 would make my experience a lot better. So in a quandry of going for a 3080 build at £1700 for a great experience or £1300 for a 3070 and put money towards upgrading my steering wheel base and rig............

JC_Maven

For decent VR, would i need the 3070 over the 2060?

10100 is last gens best 4/8 cpu so it does win the race vs ryzens 4/8 in cpu fights with no bot on any other aspect. however the advantage on the ryzen there base board is better for the ram spec u have faster ram which would swing back hard. so true performance there about even. in a VS for DIY there even cost cos many discount windows charges. but for windows direct buyers then the palicomp storm troops over it. if palicomp had the stocks and did it, it would certain fly out as they have previous but there is like 3 left. 1 is saved for u to monday if u want it. certainly miles better then the other ones u came to me over, they was ok if these wasnt there as a back up but overall not really that great. very very few deals at 500-800 excluding vega aspects. so i was quite surprised i got that custom at that price for u tbh

burnie2000

Yeah they did, good price too but it just to compare the motherboard and cpu and how they compare and is it easy to upgrade in the future (possibly)

sarden84

did they email u back a price? the custom was original 2 lots (my mistake as i thought u wanted) did they send it over 1x? palicomp would be better. pretty much nilled windows in the compare for it. 479 here +47 for 2tb + 11 wifi = 537 then 16gb + 35 570 for the awd +++ windows cost but the palicomp is limited 3 left.

RRP for GPU's are so 2020. You:d be lucky to get a RTX 2060 for under £500

T4Face

That gpu will fetch £800 on ebay easily. When the mining stops. RRP resumes

Blueberry_Aniseed

just buy a 6700xt from ebuyer for 720, instead of this trash

runnybabbit

The price gouging knows no bounds. They're charging close to £1000 and there's 8GB RAM (actually less than the unnecessary 12GB VRAM on the graphics card btw) and a 240GB SATA SSD in 2021. Customising on the site shows 16GB is only £35 more, and a 1TB NVME M.2 SSD would only cost around £100. Windows 10 not even included. If the 'small things' like that were more up to snuff it wouldn't be such a slap in the face.
