Crazy price for a very capable CPU to put in a budget build. Hot

Notice how Ngreedia and Intel were caught paying off CDPR to nobble Cyberpunk when using a Ryzen processor? A simple binary edit boosted performance of CPUs like this one by up to 27% ingame. This is how much AMD tech is now feared by the competition.

Anyone considering this, needs to have realistic expectations of what the CPU is capable of. This was never a £145 CPU. It is a CPU AMD scavenged from its rubbish bins of CPU's manufactured with a fault, found during the validation process, like broken graphics or CPU cores. Now this isn't a bad thing, as the scavenged CPU can often be great value. In this case though the CPU was only ever worth £75 at launch, compared with AMD own R5 3600 or Intels i3-12100F.

£60 is a fair price - not the deal of the week.

Good review here explaining what exactly this CPU is.

The Ryzen 5 3600 also has 2 cores disabled so has just as much chance of being scavenged as you put it. The only downside of this chip is that it only has 8mb l3 cache compared to 32mb on the 3600 which will affect gaming performance quite a bit.

I was looking at this to put in a modest gaming HTPC, however was put off by it being limited to PCIe 3.0, so went with the Ryzen 5 5600 instead. (edited)

Oooo nice. Gonna pair this with a 4090 for playing Pinball3D.

You'll need at least 6 ARGB fans set to unicorn vomit to get decent framerates with that setup.

A great little budget CPU for that money.

Any helpful soul that could tell me how does it compare to i3 9100f?

Depends exactly what you'll be using it for; if gaming the difference will likely be quite modest in older games where single-threaded performance was most important, however many newer games will benefit considerably from all the extra cores & threads (4/4 vs 6/12).
If you'll be using for productivity (and general computing for that matter) this Ryzen will be quite a big performance jump. Example below it benchmarks up to 2.5x higher.

Note it doesn't necessarily translate to exactly '2.5x more powerful' as it depends on the application/usage, but it should be a fair amount faster in most situations.

    worthwhile upgrade for a ryzen 5 2600 ??

is it me or does the aging 3600 ryzen trounce this newer 4500, even if its at this crazy price
    technokeenan's avatar
I'm pretty sure my aging ryzen 7 1700 cpu trounces the 4500. Even though i only play games that use a single core.
