sorted byZen 4 (7000 series) shows this even more. The first Zen 4 CPUs defaulted to insane power limits, and got (falsely) derided as too hot (by outlets that give a pass to Intel CPUs running vastly hotter again). The second batch of Zen 4 chips were EXACTLY the same, except they default to a lower power limit- a bit slower and a LOT cooler.
With AMD you must think about the power limit, so you do not pay more than you need for the performance you are going to accept when you set your preference for a power limit. AND, of course, lower power limits work fine with cheaper cooling solutions.
Even so, if you want something faster than the excellent 3600 deal that was just posted, this is really the next step for productivity and content creation. X3D for gaming is a whole jump further in price, then it goes up from there for 12 cores +.
5700x gets my recommendation as the current all-rounder CPU on AM4, but it should be £149. (edited)
For the most part, yes.
If you're not in urgent need of the upgrade, just spend time putting more money into an AM5 build some time in the future. (edited)
Also the 5600 is around £84 on Ali.
I was expecting the PRICE gap between 8-core 5700x and 6-core 5600 to drop by now in August, but still not moving much or lower since a couple of months ago....
I will be buying his 5600x off him to fit in his younger brother’s who has a 3600 (edited)
Bargain for somebody looking for a mid-range PC. (edited)
Bear in mind that if you have a GPU like RX5700XT or RX6600 or RTX2060, you will see little benefit in games from upgrading from earlier Ryzen generations:

Do you imply that the benefit of switching to a 5700X (or 5600X, if you have an opinion as well!) would be minimal?
Should I wait a year or two to actually revamp the whole setup?
So the cpu is determining the fps here?
