It's £20 more for 7700x. why would anyone recommend this?!?
    The.Fat.Cat's avatar
Because plenty of people have AM4 mobo's with lower end CPU's and want to replace one part, not half their system.

Not everyone wants to, or can afford to replace the CPU, mobo and RAM... (edited)

    Looking for advice please
I'm wanting to upgrade my old intel setup - is it better to go with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D on an AM4 socket MB or a Ryzen 7 7700X on a AM5 socket MB. Prices seem very much the same.

It will mostly be used for gaming GPU - GeForce RTX 3060ti

    Thank you for any advise

I was watching a hardware unboxed video on YouTube not long ago, they recommended going am5 if you have the budget, otherwise 5800x3d if already on am4.

Tempted but not sure worth it replacing a 3800X ?

100% worth it man in my opinion. Just for the 1% frames alone it's worth it. I upgraded from a 3700x 6 months ago and i wouldn't look back

If you're coming from a 65W CPU and only have the stock cooler (or any other smaller cooler), these are great value at under £40 and are capable of cooling this CPU, no need to spend a fortune on a Noctua -

The PA's have 6 heat pipes, the PS has 7 so is a little better, but either will be just fine.
They are all 155mm tall so make sure you have enopugh clearance in your case. (edited)

Tempted between this or the Ryzen 9 7900x. Mostly Photoshop/lightroom, light video editing and some gaming.
    technokeenan's avatar
x3d is pure gaming. Go for the 7900 if you dont play cpu intense games.

I'm holding out for the 5600x3d. It seems very unlikely to release soon if the 5800x3d keeps getting price drops like this
Edit: Its here, its finally here. I'm like a kid at christmas. So exiting!

Edit edit: Just read through and no UK release announced. Boooo! (edited)

Same, I hope it's real. This way I get a boost but also won't need to change my CPU heatsink

Literally just bought this and was about to post the deal too 😄

This is a heck of a lot of chip for the money, and AMDs compatibility is outstanding. I’ve got an first gen B350 mobo I could theoretically add this to, not that I would, I went for 5600 instead. Fabulous performance especially for cache heavy games.
  10. jungleboy123's avatar
AMD gonna shoot their own foot off if the price keeps dropping. This is like the 1080ti of CPUs for gaming.

    Ill bite at £150 baby

    Great price

For anyone that is still on the AM4 socket and wants a boost. This is a great buy.

    And here’s me upgrading from a 3200G to a 5600X
    Smm0's avatar
Only to realise you need a GPU.

    Hold....hold....hold...
    Brunt87's avatar
Hold as in you think cpu prices will be cheaper soon? Genuine question.
  16. TankDeal's avatar
Waiting for Ryzen 8000 or 14th Intel depending on which is more efficient with less issues.

£230 second hand on ebay. You could turn a profit!

Ordered one this morning for a fiver more. Grr.

Will probably place another order and return the first.

I have Ryzen 7 5800x worth selling that for this?
    LaurenceGough's avatar
I made this change as it's the best am4 CPU avaliable for gaming. I've noticed better lows in a fair few games and it's far better on certain games such as ms flight SIM and dcs.

I hate bad FPS lows so this CPU helped a lot with that for me. check the games you play in reviews.

    Bargain price this. (edited)

Anyone notice less, Amazon pay in 5 options? Used to get the offer pretty much all the time for Amazon sold high cost items, but seems far less now.

Coming from a 3600 paired with a 6800XT. What sort of gains will I get at 1440p in stuff like FS, Cities Skylines and COD with this? If it's less than 25% then I can't justify the price yet.
    GOODSTUFF's avatar
expect over 50% in fps upgrade!

I upgraded from a Ryzen 5 5600x paired with a 3070 which isn’t as good as a 6800xt and saw around 40% some even 50% fps upgrade its crazy! X3D big W for AMD

FYI - update for the community here, if you've not seen it yet....

AMD announce 5600X3D for $229 - about £180 - but possibly only in USA only??

    kitguru.net/com…29/

US retail prices don't include VAT/sales tax. This CPU would have been close to £220 in the UK.

When you take into account these being defective 5800X3D units that have two cores disabled and slightly lower clocks, but the same TDP, I don't see how anyone could justify buying it over the 5800X3D.

In any case, it's just a limited run at a specific retailer in the States, not something I would consider making its way over here.
