Anyone reckon this will drop closer to the £200 mark over the next year? (edited)

Not likely to drop so low across this period due to their 'Rolls Royce' position on AM4. Look for more like 250.

I got this recently and just a bit of advice:

    1. You NEED a powerful cooler.
    2. Even with the cooler, it runs hot. I was surprised to see 70° doing very little, frequently, using a good quality 3 fan rad aio.
    3. The CPU is designed to be able to hit 90° under full load, so even with a good aio, expect some fan noise if you push it.

I eventually emailed AMD who confirmed these temps were in the normal operation range.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great CPU but best you know the score. (edited)

Great price. No regrets going from 5600 to this with a 3080.

Remember to do the under volting though otherwise you won’t get the max boost speed out of this chip. (edited)

If you can afford a 3080 why on earth did you ever have a 5600????

If youre building fresh the 13600k is better I think (edited)

Nah why would you buy into another dead platform? Go AM5 - 7600(X) if you're on a budget, and then you're set for simple drop-in CPU upgrades years down the line. (edited)

Now time to sell on my 5900X (edited)

No way you should sell your Ryzen 9 5900x over this (edited)

Does anyone know if the PBO tuner fix is worth doing? I'm not sure its making a difference but that could be beause my cpu cooler is a beast and stops it overheating. Getting 60c max load all the time.

Allows the CPU to boost higher on an all core workload.

It works fine for me. The add to basket shows on the right hand side.

They're pretty good. They are also big on eBay with 31,000 items sold and 99% positive feedback. (edited)

Nah 5800x does good enough job waiting for 8800x3D depends on reviews and efficiency.

i needed the upgrade to 5800x3d + 32gb ram, much smoother now. I think beyond this the cpu will suffice. Now need a decent (affordable) gpu to push 144hz 2k and 60hz 4k....

solid part, dead platform- only worth buying if you are already on AM4

it would be like buying a (nuclear heat generator) 13700, its a 1 gen card and at that point you might as well buy a PS5/xbox

the AM5 platform is worth the extra cash, its a 7-8 year guarantee- a couple of generations of cards. should get you to the end of the PS6 lifecycle

Anybody moved from a 5600x to this is it a big difference? Playing at 1440p

I want to make the switch to amd from my i7 8086k but I am also broke. Maybe I can sell my cpu and mobo to cover some of the cost. This price seems really good.!

Skip AM4 and just buy a 7600x AM5 system, absolutely no point building around a dead platform, especially when both will cost you around the same to switch, this 5800X3D CPU is really for people looking to give their AM4 systems a bit of a life extension (edited)

Would this make much difference over a Ryzen 7 5700g playing in mostly 1440p or 4k with a 7900xtx ?
    face-crab's avatar
    face-crab
Not really. Are your screens 60 Hz? If so, you're already running pretty much all titles over 60 Hz at ultra at 1440p and 4K. If there are some titles you'd like to run at higher FPS then maybe consider it but you could also upgrade to AM5 if you're relatively cash heavy.

If anyone needs a new cooler, These Thermalright coolers are probably the best air coolers around (yes, better than Noctua's famous NH D15).

The PS and PA are very similar, the PS has 7 pipes vs the PA's 6, but performance is very similar.
You'll get an extra 5c or so reduction at high wattages with the PS.

The SE versions are 155mm tall, non-SE (if oyu find any) are 157mm -
