Exactly right. Its a badge on a no-brand machine. Unlike "real" Breville/Sage kit.

Can you change the portrafilter to the ones where you can see the coffee shot coming out?

No. You'd have to cut the bottom of the portafilter off. But this machine uses pressurised filter baskets to make espresso-ish coffee and won't cope with a proper espresso grind even if you could find a non-pressurised basket that would fit.

If you want good espresso at least equivalent to what you might buy at a cafe, then the consensus seems to be that you need to spend a bit more on a machine. The Sage Duo Temp, and Bambino models are well regarded at the price and work well out of the box. The Gaggia classic is well regarded, solid and has better parts availability but might be a bit more faffy to get consistently good coffee. You will then need to get a grinder that can go fine enough for espresso. The two Sage grinders the "Dose control pro" and the "Smart" are well regarded at the "budget" end of the market. Together you are looking at around £500-600 new or around £300 second hand for the coffee machine and grinder. Which is similar to the entry level Sage Barista unit that combines a capable grinder and coffee machine in one unit.

Personally, I have the Sage Duo Temp Pro and their "smart" grinder and the espresso exceeds what I have had out 95% of the time.

If you prefer longer coffees, then an Aeropresse, Mokka pot, V60, or even a cafeteria combined with a cheaper burr grinder are capable of producing equally good results. The big thing is to grind the beans fresh, as the taste of ground coffee deteriorates very quickly with a noticeable difference even after 24 hours.

Solid machine, makes good coffee, I bought a couple of years ago for 150 had no issue

Don't know how good this is, but on the surface it's a great price for a starting machine

Seen this the other week but have been holding out for a deal on the barrista max version.

Stay away from the MAX , its a rebadged Sunbeam EM5300, a very notoriously bad machine ( look it up on aussie forums) . I had two , both went faulty within a year , impossible to repair obnoxious design with security screws in places that no screw driver would reach .. Sage/ Delonghi are miles better
