For all those saying these don’t get you fit or means you put in less effort you’re talking out of your rears.

These are assisting and how much assist you require or use is up to you. You can still go just as hard as on a non e bike and all that will happen is you’ll ride most of the time with no assistance as it kicks out at 15.5mph anyway due to uk law and even up to that your effort will just be matched by the motor so you’ll go faster for the same effort level.

The main benefit for me is means I can get up a steep hill quicker and without dying then enjoy the downhill runs without hanging…

These are also superb for physio / recovering from injury. Or alternatively for unfit or older generations wanting to get fitter and enabling them to be assisted when necessary and can dial it down as they get fitter or dial it up as they get more tired or the terrain steepens.

So many people don’t understand also how even if you’re supremely fit like me it’s still just an awesome experience to have one and do things you can’t do on a normal mtb especially uphill. My ftp is just over 300w yet I still love my e-bike more than any other as it’s just pure fun.

Try one and see what you’re missing. If you haven’t ridden one you can’t and shouldn’t judge. They’re awesome

Nothing against ebikes, I think they help an awful lot of people get out and enjoy riding, most all of the people I rmtb with are now on emtbs, their fitness has gone down, this is evident when they occasionally go on a normal mtb, gasping for air and riding very slow, moaning and groaning about who's stupid idea was it to go out without the ebikes!

You said it yourself, - "For all those saying these don’t get you fit or means you put in less effort you’re talking out of your rears."
...and then followed up with - "and even up to that your effort will just be matched by the motor so you’ll go faster for the same effort level." ?????!!!!! Sure you might get fitter, but nowhere near as fit as you would on a normal bike.

I'm 55yrs old, some of the blokes now on emtbs are half my age, get them on their normal bikes and after years of riding emtbs they can't keep up with me, put them back on their emtbs and they think it so funny to ride alongside me on a hill chatting away about how I should get one as they make the hills so easy! I love climbing hills under my own power, they just can't get their heads around that fact.

As I said , nothing against ebikes, but at least be truthful about them. I might get one myself in a few years (edited)

You can have either a 504Wh at that price, or a 630Wh for £200 more. You're prompted after you pick colour/size.

Are those 'great components' actually designed for a 25kg + bike?

Rockshox 35 forks were developed with heavier ebikes in mind. Rear shock is ebike rated.

10sp Deore is robust and cheap to replace when things wear out. The high-end lightweight stuff doesn't do well with the extra torque.

Wheels are about what you'd expect for a trail eMTB. Nobby Nic tyres are fine too for this.

How does Canyon compare to the likes of Trek, Specialised, Giant etc. I can't say I've heard much about them but I'm not an emtb guy... Yet. Looking into getting one but unsure of the brand, reliability etc

Canyon is a good brand, with a wide range of models - road, gravel, various flavours of mountain bike and eBike. Unlike the big name brands they don't try to cover the entire quality/price range, so they don't make any tat. Top end Canyon road bikes are raced in the Tour de France. Direct sales route keeps prices competitive - although none of their bikes are cheap, compare them to others of the same spec and they're good value.

    Why is it entry level?

Is it a stepping stone to getting an off-road motorbike?

It's what I class as 'entry level' as a branded dual suspension emtb with these kind of components are usually much pricier.

There will be loads of comments re: 'it's the price of motorbike/ cars. A Chinese one is half the price etc...' but if you know you know. I've got one and ridden many others and can vouch this is a good deal

I really don’t get why these e-bikes are still so expensive. The technology is quite simple - fairly cheap and getting ever cheaper. Give it a couple of years and you’ll be able to get an e-bike with quality components for under a grand.

Don’t buy this thinking of it as an investment. (edited)

Nope. The quality battery and motor makers keep their systems expensive so won’t happen. Buying cheaper risks no service or parts plus terrible build quality.

Even better if you have a company that lets you put it through the cycle to work scheme.

Heat added OP, nice price. Holding off for a few years but concept appeals. The components seem a little low rent but i bow to other's views on this and ultimately, they have to shave the costs somewhere.

Bought through cyclescheme - absolute bargain - should work around £2125 after tax and NI savings.

Also one of the few places you can buy discounted bikes through cyclescheme and not been charged extra as many bike shops do that on sale bikes and cyclescheme.

This is seriously good buy through cyclescheme.

I got mine through cyclescheme too. Makes a huge saving. The good thing with canyon is you can order it and then upload cyclescheme certificate when it lands.

Toys. Take out ,play on , put away.
Recent thread on £2300 125cc scooter was over 100 comments - majority about theft.
    This would be far worse.
Used to think I lived in bike theft capital of UK - flat 'round here - but it's just one of many.

As an owner of a Canyon e-MTB and someone who has been mountain biking for years (maybe that's why I now see the appeal) the only disadvantage to all e-MTB's is the weight - e.g. lifting over gates etc. or transporting in a car if you're driving to a trail that's miles away.

Can you chip/hack or whatever its called so you don't have to peddle? Before anyone says the reason for this is as a type 1 diabetic my bloods go low and rather then sit and wait anything up to an hour to get back to a ok level to bike.

No way of having bit go without pedalling as it's pedal assist.
You maybe looking for a e-bike with a throttle, rather than just pedal assist.
It can be remapped with several aftermarket tuning apps, but still requires pedalling. you could put it in low low gear with near enough zero resistance and it will get you home, but still requires you to pedal unfortunately
