    Just run the hottest wash once a month. Don’t need any detergent or additives.

    Had a smelly washing machine for a while and tried a few remedies. It turns out that it was the liquid detergent (tabs) causing the problem. Switched to powder and the smell went after 2 or 3 cycles and hasn't returned.

    once weekly service guys tell it(ever since the dreaded 30 deg wash became normal on advertiseing) - to get the old powder gunge out of it. you won't have black mould on door seal if you connect a salt based water softener...or leave door ajar after use.... (edited)
