How would this saw handle cutting down a small tree? It’s around 10 inches in diameter.

This wouldn't work. You probably want a chainsaw for that type of task. If sticking to manual tools, a large bow saw (has much, much bigger teeth) can cut live wood that thick, but still not ideal for trunks due to the cut closing in on the blade and binding the saw.
