It's not just a trend. My wife has been using hers for years to change and keep warm after sea swimming all year. Yes, they are not cheap and cheaper versions do exist (some better than others), but doesn't mean they are useless.

If you see people wearing these, your house prices are going up

Usually see fellow doggers using these too.

I know, i have done a couple of events recently and lots of 'fashionable' people wearing them due to a slight wind and or drizzle, i love it in my years old training gear! reminds me of a phrase 'all the gear and no idea!

    Popular with open water swimmers

And watersports in general. Windsurfers/kite surfers etc will still be at the beach when it's cold/miserable as sometimes that makes for great sporting conditions.

It's just a trend, kids want their parents to buy if see something popular.

To be fair it's mainly middle aged women wearing them at our beach. In my day it was still an old beach towel no matter what time of year.

Aye, gotta agree, for £150 I’d rather do the beach towel shuffle

Great for all sorts of outdoor activities, been looking at all the different variants for a while.

Do agree there is a hefty price tag attached

I have a similar item, just not a dryrobe one and I use it when I've finished mountain biking in the cold and wet, beats getting naked and cold in a lay-by somewhere.

Sneering at someone else's newer equipment

Yes, it's a changing robe but why just use it for changing? I've got some swimming shorts that I occasionally go cycling in

Yes, outdoor swimming all year has become more popular, but its always been popular around my way, along with surfing, which I do and I remember first seeing these 10 years ago or so and thinking they were a nice update on my grandma's homemade toweling robe with elastic around the neck.

In any sport /hobby there's always snobbery and anti-snobbery regarding different gear (as in the wetsuit /no wetsuit with outdoor swimming). If you can afford it and find it useful, great - if you're old school and use just a normal towel, fine. (edited)

Yep see them all the time at the beach.Proper rip off price though.

Paid £85 for my genuine one last year ! Great for open sea swimming especially this time of year

Isn't this the normal price? What's the deal here?

The deal is (was) that there was a free dryrobe towelling changing poncho included (usually retails at £40-50). People seem to be judging the item itself rather than the *deal*: dryrobe deals are few and far between, so in that sense this is a decent deal...if you want a *dryrobe* specifically.

Also Agreed, just get changed when you get out of the water. I have seen some classy mums putting them over their pyjamas for the schools run.

Absolutely. The entire use case is redundant. If you're in the outdoors, you would be expected to have a good shell. So all you need is a robe underneath? But then I'd question the entire thing.

All the gear and deffo no idea

use mine regulary actually and love it. Try doing an OCR race and then getting changed in the freezing cold without one and you will see the reason to buy one

I love mine, now I can get out of the bath or shower & go straight out with my dogs.
  28. yestochickpeas's avatar
I'd say that's a good deal, if you wanna buy a dryrobe. I have one, but more use a towelling robe to change after swimming. They've put the prices up since outdoor swimming has become more popular
  29. mcek's avatar
Buy a cheap pop-up tent. Buy a couple of bath towels. Get inside, get dry, get changed. Seems more privacy to me.

There again, I never go swimming. (edited)

You are now just paying for the name, there are so many different changing robes out there of differing qualities... even Primark have a version.
Osprey do one of equal quality for half the price, got mine recently for £64
