    100% medium-density fibreboard (MDF).

How times change, marketing this as a feature. 🤦🤦

I suspect you're fairly new to audio? Medium density fibreboard (MDF) and High density fibreboard (HDF) are actually the PREFERRED structural base for speakers even in the £10K+ range for a simple reason - these materials are not acoustically active compared to any of the solid woods. So yes, sawdust glued together is preferred to solid woods by speaker manufacturers, who then of course attach a solid wood veneer layer on top to make it look high end. Some manufacturers spend millions on research on how they can make improvements in the process for manufacturing MDF and HDF to improve their acoustic neutrality.
In fact, speaker designers tend to use plywood as well these days as its acoustically even superior to MDF and HDF - for instance, the B&W 800D series use 12 to 18 layers of ply. A pair of ex-demo 801 D4s are currently available for £21K on ebay (there's usually a waiting list should you want new).

The last thing you want is your speaker cabinet adding its own music to your music ("cabinet colouration").

Cheaper on HMV site if you add the 20% referral code. I just used my own two emails and got a code. Think it works at 47 quid after

Surrounded by 100% MDF.. WOW! Fancy!!
    Pondlife's avatar
Fancy or not it's a very good material for speakers, and is also used in far more expensive ones.

Does anyone have these? If so, would you recommend them?

I’m trying to decide between these Edifiers and these -

I went for the Bluetooth ones (think they are the next model up) about £80, the controls are on the side so easier to get to & you have a lot more connection choices. They are amazing speakers for the money & the sound/bass is amazing for there size

These sorts of dinky little nearfields are great for general PC desktop use, although somehow my Logitech X-140 are still functional after all these years. The further we get from those grotesque beige nineties speakers with no shielding from interference the better.
    G3n3ralWast3's avatar
i always wondered what happened to interference with mobile signal. is 4g/5g such high frequency that speakers dont pick it up anymore? because i looked inside a few speakers (including these) and thers no shielding. at least not in teh housing.

There is a lot of bashing here. Can anyone actually suggest better PC speakers for £60 or less please? Am looking and don't really want to spend more than that.
    irabbs7's avatar
Can be reduced to £48 quid if you buy from the HMV site, find my post earlier on this thread explaining how. So for 48 quid even better value

Got Edifiers in my garage not sure on model but mine have Bluetooth. They sound great and comparable to my Bose sound links.

The only thing I would add is my LG tv doesn't support Edifier as a brand and the speakers remote is not very good.
    Smoggy1970's avatar
    What does that even mean?

I've had edifier R1850s for a while now and added a sub, they're brilliant for the price and with all the inputs, work with everything.

These look like exactly what i need - cheers OP

How do these compare to the Edifier 1280T?
    G3n3ralWast3's avatar
same speakers minus bluetooth and remote. i had those, now i have these
  12. OB1's avatar
Has anybody measured the energy consumption of these (assuming left on 24/7)?
    G3n3ralWast3's avatar
i always switch mine off from the switch behind. otherwise they go: plonk! when i turn my computer on and off. and the ''plonk!'' reminds me to switch the speakers off whenever i forget to (edited)
