In FTL you experience the atmosphere of running a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It's a dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge with multiple solutions. What will you do if a heavy missile barrage shuts down your shields? Reroute all power to the engines in an attempt to escape, power up additional weapons to blow your enemy out of the sky, or take the fight to them with a boarding party? This "spaceship simulation roguelike-like" allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.

Key features
  • Complex Strategic Gameplay - Give orders to your crew, manage ship power distribution and choose weapon targets in the heat of battle.
  • Play at Your Own Speed - Pause the game mid-combat to evaluate your strategy and give orders.
  • Unique Lifeforms and Technology – Upgrade your ship and unlock new ones with the help of six diverse alien races.
  • Be the Captain You Want - Hundreds of text based encounters will force you to make tough decisions.
  • Randomized Galaxy - Each play-through will feature different enemies, events, and results to your decisions. No two play-throughs will be quite the same.
  • No Second Chances! - Permadeath means when you die, there's no coming back. The constant threat of defeat adds importance and tension to every action.

This is always on a top 100 games list somewhere. I've never played it.

I don't think anyone can explain what's good about a game, some people like it and some people don't. I love it because firstly the atmosphere the game projects is pretty magical. It evokes the feeling of being stuck in deep space. In terms of game play it feels like seat of your pants stuff, facing off against powerful opponents and managing to get out alive (just). Coming up with little tactics to survive and gradually improve your ship is cool.

I actually think it's most similar to Solitare, the card game. Every run is like a new game of solitare, you don't know whether you can win or not. During the game you can make all the right choices and still lose and often you won't know you're going to lose until it's too late, although after a while you do feel like any bad event has just cost you the entire run.

For anyone reading this, be aware that you're supposed to pause the game frequently. 90% of the time you're probably going to be paused thinking about what decision to make. It takes a while to learn too so I don't think it's possible to figure out in just 5 mins, that's barely enough time for a single battle

Heated, was hoping for KSP for me personally as I, like probably most ppl that wanted it TBH, already have it on Steam but it's undeniably well regarded game and not a repeat of a previous giveaway so heat here.

Nice freebie, but I hope they give us something a little bit newer next though, nothing wrong with older games but it just dramatically increases the odds someone has already bought it elsewhere so won't benefit...

That's a good guess. Another duplicate would be pretty disappointing, mind.
hmm, yeah Hyper Light Drifter tomorrow no doubt. I didn't add it last time. Given away August 15th week.
This is a great game. I've sunk over a hundred hours into it. It's one of those games with tons of replayability, allowing you to experience new events, try and new ships/weapons and employ different tactics.

Had a lot of fun teleporting onto enemy ships and wiping entire crews out just to get more loot or bonus crew members.

I'd definitely recommend getting it if you don't already own it on Steam and/or iOS (Like me).

Speaking of iOS, it's currently on sale for iPad at £2.99 for a limited time. It may not be free, but the touch controls, achievements and portability might appeal to some.

By the way, the next game is Hyper Light Drifter.

It's basically confirmed with the teaser image and this: epicdata.info/off…bcc If only it was The Messenger, the only game I missed
Thanks OP. Been after FTL in the humble bundle for ages.
I have been happily ignoring the Epic freebies for some time, but Superhot broke my resolve and my collection commenced.
I'm now adding to my freebie collection like its the early days of Steam.

No doubt I will break my resolve and end up buying Borderlands 3.

Damn!

Definitely a top game. So much replay value. I must've sunk like 400+ hours on it already.

Just some advice for potential new players out there. You might feel the RNG at times is unfair and shafting you over. The beauty of this game is learning how to deal with what RNG throws at you and destroying the flagship despite the odds.

No, just make sure you are logged in and then complete the order (even though it is a free game you have to go through their checkout system as if you are buying it) it is yours to download whenever you like. So absolutely no reason not to claim these, even if you have them on other platforms, it literally takes a few clicks...

Kerbal Space Program isn't on the Epic Store, however it is on Steam at 75% off currently, enjoy!

Really good game that could have been amazing if Devs added multiplayer, sandbox mode, away missions etc but they've said they won't be adding any further dlc which is a shame. Like star trek bridge crew which had amazing potential to be one of the best games ever made. Shame really.

As far as I'm aware, until today FTL wasn't on the Epic store either.
Awesome thanks for this!
Recommend watching Lethal Frag on YouTube. He plays this A LOT. Gives you a good idea about how to play and how to adapt. Saying that, I've only ever gotten to the flagship once and lost badly - I think at the 2nd stage.

If you're good at multitasking you should be very good at this.
Easily one of the best games of the decade. If you haven't played this yet, shame on you you have no excuse not to play it now.
An indie masterpiece, a mandatory experience for anyone who claims oneself a gamer.
Also, awesome OST by Ben Prunty.... soooo spacey
Don't quite understand how this works. After pressing the "GET" button what happens next? Nothing happening for me.

Yea, same result. All I have is a green spot against my account name.
Excellent real-time strategy roguelike game which even on easy setting, is not easy. It took me a long time to finally defeat the rebel flagship during which time I mainly concentrated on achievements and unlocking ships. The feeling you get when you beat it though is soooo good.

Damn! Just bought it a couple of weeks ago.
I tend to find most popular indie games a bit crap once the initial charm wears off - can confirm this game wasn't one of them.

I hope they put subnautica back up at some point, I missed that one.
i love this game. It is amazing! Super hard as well, but addictive enough to keep asking you to try again. Just like way I like my games.
Someone should add some kind of multiplayer to this game so we can all battle against each other. It would be a fantastic game to have unpredictable battles on multiplayer. Someone do this!?!
Now I have the theme tune stuck in my head again.

The vast majority of the games that have been given away on the EGS have launched as free, including FTL.Hyper Light Drifter tomorrow will be about the third not to have done.

Thank you!
Literally just completed this on hard with all achievements for the second time (rebought on Steam to sync across devices)

The genius of this game is you can sink a couple of hours into it, or just do a single battle while having a cup of tea.

The replay ability is immense, just when you've got it sussed, a scout drone will turn up with the exact combination of weapons to completely stuff you over...
Wow. Talk about an amazing offer. One of my favourite games of all time and everyone needs to give it a shot!

Remember to pause with the space bar. It is your friend. I also recommend putting autofire on.

If you have intruders put your crew in the medbay and open all the exterior and interior doors apart from the medbay. Then laugh and laugh and laugh as you annhiliate them.
