When they introduced the charge last year I stopped buying from them, this shows People Power. Now they will get my hard earned cash and if they bring back charging for click and collect I will once again stop shopping with them.

Surprised they ever charged for it in the first place. Free at John … Surprised they ever charged for it in the first place. Free at John Lewis, Adds, Argos, Debenhams....

John Lewis charges £2 for orders less than £30

They should have kept free it in the first place. Asda George always had free collection to store and that's why I go back. It was silly to have the minimum spend since many of their items are priced below it and these won't sell well if people always think of the add on price to get it to store. It also dilutes the sell price for these items since they would think of lowering the price for already low price items which don't sell well and I'm sure many people would tag on another item they don't want just to meet the minimum spend and simply reject or return the item afterwards. Increased returns with not many choosing to pay the collection charge is not good...get rid of the min spend.

I wonder if this is a permanent move as Sainsbury will soon be absorbing Argos and I think Click & Collect sales have taken a hit.

Haven't used Tesco Direct since they started charging. Good to see them back tracking and offering free collection, in line with so many other shop's. Not voting this either way as I don,'t think this is a great deal, just something Tesco putting their mistake right and something that should be the norm anyway. Appreciate the Op pointing it out thou. Thanks Op.

Got to love these companies who introduce something which is only there … Got to love these companies who introduce something which is only there due to pure greed on thier part, has a negative impact on their Customers and their Customers didn’t request. Then they introduce the "removal" of it for a period of time and imply they are doing their Customers a huge favour! I am struggling to see a deal in this scenario as they are just giving back what they took away. I for one haven’t bought anything from Tesco Click and Collect since the charge was introduced either.

I am very happy the charge has been abolished, but I wonder if you have got your own business, or ever worked for yourself ?
People don't work for nothing (except in charity shops, but that's a different argument) so if it takes extra manpower to handle the click and collect items, then why is it 'pure greed' to try and charge for that extra cost ?
I am certainly no fan of supermarkets and the way they try to control their suppliers (many small fruit and veg growers have been bankrupted by supermarkets' tactics) but it obviously costs some extra money to handle C&C items no matter how small, so they thought it would be good to charge - after all, they are a business not a charity.
The fact they are reversing that decision is brilliant news and shows they must have suffered financially, but the cost will have to come from somewhere, either wages or investment perhaps. Please don't anyone say the cost can come from profits - every business has to make a profit or it will cease to exist and then people lose their jobs.

This shouldn't even need to be a deal! Should be like this permanently like every other shop

Yeah, same here. Haven't used Click & Collect since the charge was introduced. Used to be a fairly regular customer.

I think the problem was that many C&C orders had to be despatched via courier, and even for Tesco it's going to cost a high percentage of the mark-up on the goods to cover the courier fee. Great to see they've backtracked and fingers crossed it's a permanent thing
  17. davej1710's avatar
We got free delivery originally and eventually didn't show we appreciate it by buying more to cover costs. Tesco is a business so needs to do things for a profit making reason, and so started to charge in certain cases. Realising it lost business, now changes back to free and everyone notices and appreciates it (Tesco seeming to have been humbled in back tracking), so the floodgates of orders are now open. New "free" cost for will be paid via increase in specific goods prices to compensate which hopefully will be unnoticed. All clever mind games from tesco (and other retailers) to get you to spend but make you think you won the battle.

I found 30 just a bit too much when I need the odd thing and trying to find something extra that i wanted difficult when I am not wanting to spend money unnecessarily. they should have set it to 20 at the time which is far more manageable to get to.

free is obviously much better for us. yay.

Should it be in the freebies section if you have to spend money to get it ? Better off in the vouchers or deals section maybe ?

All good points. Yes I have my own business and yes I work for myself. As such I would question why the charge wasn’t introduced into the business model from conception. In such a competitive market or any market it's not good business practice to alienate your Customers by backtracking subsequently causing a negative backlash and unfavourable press headlines. I also question why charge for delivering to a place where your own vehicles are already delivering too on a daily basis is required? Finally yes I also know how much Tesco's operating costs are, I am a Tesco shareholder too unfortunately. I suspect if they hadn't acquired a £17.5bn debt hangover from their irresponsible rampant boom-time expansion they could have absorbed the costs of Click and Collect hence my greed comment.

How is this hot? Asda and many other retailers have always done free C&C without min spend! Also, many small businesses do free HOME delivery on eBay and Amazon. So they can afford it but Tesco can't..

Can u add a link to the specific details on this.Website is still giving charge. I know it doesn't start til tomorrow but I don't see anything very obvious about this on their website and u would think it would be a headline banner. Also nothing coming up on google search except this hukd. Do u have insider info ??? Thanks

I used to order quite a lot of from F&F for click and collect but since they moved it over to direct it seems like they just don't have the range they used to. The separate website was much easier to use and navigate.

Good news - presumably the charge they introduced lost them more money than it brought in.

John Lewis is another one that got greedy, and we've bought virtually nothing from it since it brought the new charge in. Maybe they'll go the same way after their latest poor results.

Awsome, Stopped using their Click and Collect service completely when they introduced the ridiculous charges. I mean you pay in petrol and time to go to their shops and then they have the cheek to charge you on top again. Typical Tesco. Wonder how many customers they will have lost for good with this one. I might use them again but its a 4 mile drive.

Agreed, could have set the delivery benchmark much lower, however I think £30 was cleverly set as being overpriced by Tesco for a reason. To make us take notice that it used to be free and appreciate it more. Now they are perceived to have back tracked (so we give brownie point to Tesco for being "humbled" when they knew what they were doing) and us customers perceive we've won, their profits will increase and so does our appreciation of the free delivery. Mind games, very clever, well played Tesco.

The staff get no extra money and so all click and collect money goes to the board for an extra holiday or five in Barbados. If they introduced a tipping system where you would pay the member of staff who served you, than I'm sure most would be happily contribute something.

Why should the staff get paid extra to handle click and collect? I assume the staff are getting paid an hourly rate to do whatever work is required in the store, whether it's working checkouts, customer services, restocking shelves, or indeed handling click and collect.

You're dead wrong, I would never tip a supermarket employee for doing their job! Whether they are paid fairly is another matter, but I don't believe in tipping people for just doing their jobs!
