I swore I wouldn't fall into the trap of attaching importance to timing my runs, I run at a comfortable pace and keep going till I want to stop, but this is soooo tempting at this great price

Does anyone have any comparative info between this and the 110?

I know the 110 can connect to heart rate monitor but that doesnt interest me. The main issue I can see with this is that it only displays 2 measurements at the same time, while I'd like 3 (pace, time, distance). The 110 is also a couple of years older which makes me wonder.

I've got one of these and it's great! I was using the Adidas miCoach app on my phone previously so this is much more convenient. The Garmin Connect website is great for analysing statistics if that floats your boat. It only shows two measurements at once, however you can edit the combination of these; I personally use Pace and Distance as I know if I stick to those the time will come with it. Thoroughly recommend especially at this price.

[Ignore]These are also in the clubcard scheme, so more savings possible. [/ignore]

...I just wish Tesco sold the 910XT

I just bought this! Had a £20 gift card for tesco to use, was going to get it from John Lewis so glad I spotted this deal! The forerunner10 allows you to set a target pace, which for myself is really good for training and racing when following a training program, not sure whether the 110 allows this. But all the running blogs I read said great things about the 10, the only downside that the gps battery life isn't as good as the other garmins, however this shouldn't be an issue if you have it fully charged and are running less than 4 hours.

I do this at the minute. Phones are bulkier and heavier. You also have to either listen to your status with headphones (which are banned in my next marathon), or go through the hassle of waking your screen then entering your lock code to see it visually.

You can also connect these to some Android tablets (Galaxy Tab 2 for one) and view your runs.

That's a deal breaker for me

Might be best to get a cycle specific one, I've got the Edge 500, fantastic bit of kit, around £130 if you hunt around and yes Garmin Coinnect is great.

Epic. Just bought the Forerunner 110 though with that voucher code and exchanged £30 clubcard vouchers for £60 Tesco Direct vouchers in the summer exchange bringing it from £109 down to £39. I'll take that!

how did you get the vouchers to work with the discount code it says can't use discount codes beginning with that code with the exchange vouchers.

Great deal for a good product - I used the 405cx, but tempted to get one of these too.....

Absolutely blinding deal - my FR10 has taken my running up a level. It's must-have kit whether I'm training or racing now.

I used Mapmyrun on my iPhone before, which is great, but this is much better in rural areas where phone reception gets sketchy at best. Me and the Mrs have run routes using one each, and the phone has lost track of us completely.

Live tracking of your speed alone is one of the most useful features you can have available at a glance.

I'm also dithering Scotia2 . I am also use to pace, distance, time on my app (Nike running) like you and that was the one thing that made me ponder over it as I like the info laid out like that. Three of my running friends have bought these over the last week. I'm upping the running to Marathon training soon so really tempted. Decisions, decisions!. :0)

This is a good price and a good bit of kit but most people at my running club end up quickly migrating to a higher end model.

FWIW on balance I'd push people to consider finding a 310xt if they are serious about running. They're cheap and have many more options - most importantly up to 4 display fields.

However if this is what you want it's a good deal.

The 310xt is a little too bulky for me.

Unfortunately I still can't decide between this and the 110. While the display on this only has 2 readouts, a button press will display a second batch of 2 readouts, so catering for all the information i require. However this is a little less attractive than the 110 so I wouldnt want to wear it casually. But then the 110 only has IPX7 water resistance whereas this is good to 50m. The 10 has virtual pacer in its favour but then a shorter battery life for training.

    Unggh.

Yup, true, (I've got the Edge 500 too) but the Edge 500 is quite a bit more expensive so unless you're a pretty serious cyclist, this will get you started nicely - especially if you do some running as well :).

One thing that GPS watches are great for is monitoring your pace. When I was running without the instant feedback from my watch I would usually start far too quickly and tire early which led to a brutal slog for the later miles. With a GPS watch I can pace myself and more comfortably run longer distances at a more even pace.

The ability to upload the statistics to various different websites is also nice.

If you are looking for any of the 310xt features might be worth waiting for the Garmin 410 to come back down in price. It was about £130 a month or two back.

It may be overkill if you are just timing and tracking runs, but the extra features are nice. Virtual Partner, live speed updates (for cycling) and the ability to edit the display settings were the factors that made me upgrade from the 110. The 410 has an incredibly fiddly touch bezel, but after the initial configuration you don't need to use it much, and it can be locked while on a run.

I've heard this argument against the FR10. Personally, I have overall time and current pace on 1 page and overall distance and current pace again on page 2, which suits me fine. It flashes your "lap" time at every mile, km etc (depending on how you have your preferences set up).

I do think it would benefit from auto-cycling through the two pages, but it's not like I constantly need to know how far I've run.

You know I ended up spending more time than I should have assessing the type of garmin i really needed, and almost convinced myself that budgeting for a 610 was acceptable. Then I had a reality check.
The 410 was almost an option - I found a refurbished one for £99 minus the HRM - but in the end the touch bezel is really putting me off. If it doesnt need as much adjustment after initial setup then I might go for it.

Just got mine and went out for a run and got a patch of condensation appear in middle of screen ,the internet is full of the same issues with the older versions from Garmin and I had an FR60 about 2 years ago which misted up. I thought perhaps it was a problem that would have been fixed by now but obviously not. This one is supposed to be waterproof aswell. Think it will have to go back and I will try a different make. Ironically I have a £15 Timex which has never had this problem but all Garmins watches seem to have this issue no matter what price you pay, they seem to be poorly put together.
