Really? £20 after cashback?

Are we assuming there will not be a price increase to counter the cashback?

Gonna get hot in here...

I assume he means £99 after £80 cash back? Otherwise deal of century.

Can this be serious?, I read it the same way, but thinking we've got to have it wrong Matey???

£99 after the £80 cashback

Its after cashback - £179, then £80 cashback. Still a good deal.

just follow the link guys
180 on its own, 99 after cashback

these are cracking boxes even at fill price...had a gen7 for years but upgraded to something else as my needs changed... wish i needed one of these, but they do look kinda cool!

WHAT CAN I do with these
Can.you tou run plex

Damn, just bought one a week and a half ago and applied for the £60 cash back, which was accepted.

Anyone know how these compare to the N40l or other old case design models in terms of sound? Very tempted to pick another one up. For £99 it would be wrong to refuse.

The processor itself costs around £20 from Intel itself.

Oops, read it wrong. Was about to say then, for £20 that would be ridiculous.

....and some.

I have its predecessor running esxi that allows up to 4 VM's. One is CentOS for serving up my websites and that also has plex server installed.

There's other stuff going on but overall, best bit of DIY kit and bang for buck.

Can any one tell me how reliable the cash back is ? been 30 days since my confirmation email lol.
Don't forget your 2% quidco to

wakkaday im with poplou.. got the older one running freenas wuth plex in a jail and it rocks.. i want one if these too.. great boxs fab little things and for all in 99 quid.. yay... yes i kmow you need to add OS and storage but still a great price. mod the bios and unlock for hotswap and full speed access on the cdrom sata channel..

damn, got this two weeks ago with £60 cashback. Comes with 2gb of ram and no drives and you'll need a caddy for 2.5 inch ssds and doesn't seem to accept non ecc memory but I'm very impressed. Definite step up from my previous n40. running windows server 2012 on it and quick reliable and quiet. almost tempted to get another.

Do HP servers own this site. Seems a day don't go by without one of these coming up. You would have thought by now people would have cottoned on to the fact that this "cashback" is in fact "cashadded" in the first place.

note also doesn't come with optical drive shown in photo so you need external USB one or os on a USB - easily made from iso with Rufus.

re buyerinfo : sorry 99 for this is exceptional value. you can argue the HP tactics but not the value for money. I guess the cashback is HP's way of stimulating demand while allowing the retailers to keep the price constant (and I guess their profit).

Hate these hp deals. Can't they just drop the price to 99 and be done with it. Not buying one due to the messing around.

Yes they have a joint ownership with Motorola, Beats and Fleshlight - you should go to their Christmas party at HUKD HQ, it's a night to remember

What messing around. Have you never filled in a warranty or registration form, because it's no more work than that.

ha'way man. printing a form out and writing your serial number on it and sending it in the post - what a fanny on eh?

heat, if only the n40l would die to justify me getting this, looks much nicer

It is an utter faff isn't it? - I just get my butler to do it as it's nearly as bad as running a marathon with kippers for shoes.

You dont have to do that i emailed mine in for my N54L. If i wasnt so happy with my old one i would be in but i cant be arsed with the messing as you need error checking memory for this.

Out of interest, does anyone who currently owns one of these actually make use of the hot plug feature?

ive never noticed the plug getting hot on mine so no, not yet

How much "better" is this than N54L? I'm mostly using mine for Plex/Storage and it normally would be more than capable for my use but Plex seems a little (unnecessarily?) resource heavy when transcoding...

Ah. £99 was my trigger point, but I've since started looking at something in a rack form factor.

How much would it cost to build an equivalently specced microserver from scratch?

I run a Celeron Gen8 / 16GB ECC RAM with FreeNAS which allows me to have Plex as a plugin. Transcoding is supported and works well on 1080p content. Very happy, awesome for the money.

Also the built in iLO 4 in compatible with iLO 2 keys... so getting it working remotely is simple stuff.

Cannot recommend this box enough. If you need a small server for home; BUY ONE!

PS - can also be upgraded later to a Xeon E3-1265L for better VMware performance.

Tons!

This will transcode easily and effortlessly as standard; but you can always drop a Xeon chip in....

This Celeron CPU is a lot better than the old Turion Neo. For Plex, I would sell the N54 and replace it with this.

im using a 54l as a file server in the office - running raid 1 on 2 of the drives (2 x 2tb) then half a dozen low porcessing vms in a lab under hyper v. with 16gb it works nicely.

replicated this on the gen 8 and it's noticeably quicker.

im now just using it as a home file and data NAS but intend on running a couple of VMs for various pruposes - it'll be more than capable.

the gen 8 build quality is much better, but a right fiddle getting the drives in - screws and allen keys

not sure if this answers your question, just my observations from using both
