HUMAX Aura Android TV 4K Freeview Play Recorder with Google Assistant and Chromecast - 1TB

In Argos Clearance Bargains, Stanley, in Co. Durham.

There was a shelf full of these brand new, which even as used models retail for £194 on Amazon and are selling new on eBay for £240 or £199 refurbished. They may be in other Clearance Bargains shops, but this is listed as a local deal.

I have this model and it hosts the Kodi app directly from the play store, as well as catch up TV for every main UK channel, and even control my CCTV cameras from it. Its a pretty versatile device.

Ultra High Definition - up to 4x the picture quality with 4K UHD and HDR
Android TV - easy setup with your Google Account, access your favourite apps and games
Google Play Store - thousands of Apps and Games including Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and BT Sport
Google Assistant - access Entertainment, change the volume, get answers, and more using your voice remote
Smart Home Control - use your voice to create the perfect viewing environment. Control Smart Home devices like lighting, adjust the temperature and more

Worth noting that there's no Netflix on this. There used to be a modded APK workaround but Netflix pulled the plug on that. You can still get Netflix content via Kodi but the navigation and interface is kinda rubbish

What’s the largest hard drive that this comes with/can take? Thanks in advance.

You can put a 2tb in this as it also comes in 2tb boxes.

With this having Kodi, does that mean it can do iptv or other similar software? Thanks in advance.

Yes, if you have the sources setup in Kodi.

These are very good for DLNAing all your recordings around the house. I can watch my recordings on all my LG TVs, playstations etc around the house. You can even watch your recordings on your computer or phone.

Yes you can. Although when(if) you sideload an apk not from the playstore it will perfectly work fine, but it's impossible to totally disable the annoying unsafe app warning from Google.

Pointless now with catch up on pretty much everything?

Use a Humax box to record films and series, then put it in a motorhome for travels. So I disagree with your pointless comment, as it depends on your needs. There is no catch up when camping.

I agree that these have been impacted by streaming, but they good for skipping through adverts and not everything is available on streaming services.

So can these things record any media being played on / through it, unlike most boxes these days that will only record the Freeview rubbish?
I often wonder how people get such fantastic recordings (thinking of torrents etc) when hdmi recorders are hard to find

No. These have a digital TV tuner in them and it records what the TV tuner receives.

You want a HDMI capture device. Most of them are marketed towards Gamers, as 'HDMI game capture cards'.

There isn't really much reason to record what's on your screen otherwise because it's digital content, people just take it directly from the disc or website direct to file, and the HDMI signal can be copy protected via HDCP.

Kodi works perfectly on my box. It easily connects to my NAS and Kodi add ons work without issue.

The quality on catch up has improved (All4 in particular) but the picture quality still cannot match the 1080, or in some cases 5.1 from sound, from the HD terrestrial broadcast.

I have experience with the Aura and it is a good box, but I'm still happy with an HDR T2 with custom firmware. That lets me copy things off the box to watch away from home.

Disney+ is an app on the Google play store. I don't have it installed by default, but it's certainly available. It is just an android box after all, so most apk can probably be side loaded if not available in the app store. (edited)
