The ideal hot tub temperature comes down to one thing, personal preference. However, 40°C is the highest safe hot tub temperature and is the industry agreed maximum, with BISHTA stating that bathing in water exceeding 40°C is potentially harmful and should be avoided.

If you're wondering what the hell is that that's making it look like a Circus tent....that's my other cunning plan (something i mentioned in a different thread)....with all the rain, what you'll find is that the rain pools on the top of the cover, even though the top cover is inflatable. This is irritating to clear off, it will weigh down the lid and also cool things quicker, and it'll bring flies etc etc.

So i got another cheap cover (which will also protect from sun damage) and put 3 cheap inflatable balls to create a pitched roof...now the rain runs off it (edited)

Body temperature above 38c is considered a high temperature.

This is a great deal, i have this and it's an excellent hot tub. Spacious for 4, may struggle with 6 adults. Has a nice soft squishy floor you can sit on. Really powerful jets and the pump is pretty cool as the display lifts up away from the main unit revealing 2 cup holders. Would definitely recommend at this price!

I also have a few recommendations.

It’s a 2kw output so unless you pay £1.50 a kw then that’s absolute rubbish. More like 30p and that’s ONLY when it’s heating the water which it isn’t doing ALL the time (edited)

40 degrees is too hot, I find 38C is perfect. The wife thinks 38C is too hot for her. Women

With regards to body temperature. 37.2C is regulated by your body. Above this in water your body can't regulate it's core temperature so you'll feel uncomfortable. Over extended period of time you'll probably suffer from heat exhaustion and then heat stroke, then death. (edited)

I have spent the last 10 years insulating and testing above ground pools and hot tubs.... insulating the ground is one of the cheapest things to do. Temperature loss per day from an un-insulated base works out to around 1 - 3 degrees C per day depending on conditions, this is before other losses from other areas, I have tested this many times. Heat transfers to colder objects until they reach thermal equilibrium. Buy foam matting and place hot tub or pool on top, savings will be made in the long run. (edited)

Yeah I'm aware of that, but you're not putting a hot tub of warm water …Yeah I'm aware of that, but you're not putting a hot tub of warm water inside something else full of cold water are you so that's a ridiculous comparison.

I'm trying to help the person that commented originally here. I understand that you know heat rises, but to say that is all it does and not to bother with ground matting is not particularly helpful and is incorrect. If you place anything hot touching something cold the heat will transfer to the colder object to create a balance, THAT'S PHYSICS! I have done the tests, insulating the ground saves in the long run. I also ground insulate my solar coils too and they are more efficient because of this. (edited)

But isn't that cost just to maintain the temperature each night, you will still need to heat the pool all day so it's hot enough to use each night, I'd love to know the actual monthly running cost averages from maybe Easter to November. (edited)

We estimate it costs around £7 ‑ £10 a week* to run a Lay‑Z‑Spa based on average usage**. We are continually developing our hot tubs to be as cost‑efficient as possible. For example, every Lay‑Z‑Spa from 2017 onwards includes the Power Saving Timer and all models from 2021 includes Freeze Shield™.

Thanks. Found that that page now, it also says:

*Figures are based on the Vegas AirJet model used 3 times a week in average UK summer temperatures. Usage: approx 25 mins with 20 mins of Lay‑Z‑Spa massage function per use including a 5 min interval. Wind‑block and cover utilised.

What’s the cost to run these?

Worth remembering it's more efficient to keep these at a certain temperature than it is to start from a low temp and heat it up everytime. Eg leave at 35c all week and heat up to 39/40 a few hours before you want to use it.
