Good deal, a nice device. But like usual we have an issue: "The RAM inside the Surface Laptop 5 is soldered onto the motherboard, and it's not designed to be replaceable by customers. Once you make your purchase, that's the amount of RAM you're stuck with until you get a new computer. As such, you're going to want to think carefully about how much RAM you'll need."

Currys, I'd rather eat sand than deal with these guys

Shipping a 12th gen laptop with 8GB of RAM is just shameful. Would be an amazing price otherwise

Pretty much, especially as most people discounted the ASUS 12th gen ones with 8GB fixed.

That's a poor deal for the price and spec. Don't personally like the overall package either....

Quite a sizeable discount from the rrp £999 but I feel like they were overcharging in the first place. This looks exactly the same as the 1st generation! But may be worth it if you want the best windows experience and build quality.

Both Apple and Microsoft are shipping devices with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSDs which are both miserly specs in 2023 but it may meet some users needs (and at least the SSD is - relatively - easily upgradeable)

    too much for 8gb

Avoid Alcantara (the material on the keyboard deck). It wears away and frays over time, and gets dirty and gross. If you’re planning to bin your laptop after a year because you have wild riches and a burning hatred for the planet however, then Alcantara is lovely, very comfortable. (edited)

    8GB of RAM in 2023.

Careful. I said the same thing on another laptop post and got cussed into oblivion for having specialist needs and not understanding what the average person requires. Which may very well be true, I don't know.

Only people with windows 98 thinks 8GB of ram is ok. Or apple fan buys who buy 1k laptops just to check their emails.

These laptops are lovely to use but the Surface Laptop 5 with 12th Gen is meant to run quite hot and worse battery than the 4 which largely defeats the purpose imo, also 8GB RAM on a Windows system costing this much seems like a poor choice - I do highly recommend the Surface Laptop but I would choose a 3 or 4 and save £200-300 where it'll do pretty much the same thing and look identical.
